I went to Best Buy on 20304 109 Street downtown hoping to have my PC repaired after it suddenly stopped working while I was completing a school assignment. Unfortunately, what I was told would be a quick repair turned into over a month of stress, poor communication, damage to my computer, and additional expenses. When I first brought my PC into the downtown Edmonton location, the Geek Squad associate I spoke with encouraged me to purchase the monthly Geek Squad membership, explaining that for approximately $20 it included diagnostics and unlimited repairs. I agreed and was told I would receive a phone call within about five business days once the issue had been diagnosed. After seven business days passed, I returned to the store in person because there is no direct way to contact the location. I was told the issue was still being diagnosed and to return in another two business days. When I returned, I was informed that the problem was with my motherboard. I ordered a new motherboard online and brought it back to the store about two weeks later. The associate opened the box, inspected the motherboard and told me the part looked perfect and that the repair would be completed in-store within three business days. Five business days later, I still had not received an update. I returned to the store again around 4:00 PM and explained that I was becoming frustrated with the lack of communication. Shortly after, the associate returned and told me they could not find my computer. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told the manager had “gone on lunch” and that I would need to return the next day. The following day, an associate informed me that PC repairs are not completed at the downtown location and are instead shipped to the west Edmonton store. This was the first time anyone had communicated this to me. The associate admitted that this should have been communicated and stated that my pc and $200 motherboard were likely somewhere on a transport truck. Had I been informed that my computer would be transported across the city, I would have driven it there myself to avoid the possibility of loss or damage. After several days of phone calls with customer service, my computer arrived at the West Edmonton store. When I saw it for the first time in over a month, I was shocked. My PC case was severely damaged during transport or handling, and my original motherboard was returned with broken prongs and damage that was not present before. The West Edmonton Geek Squad manager was professional and handled the situation appropriately. Unfortunately, I was informed that none of the Geek Squad locations in Edmonton could diagnose the issue with my PC and that it would need to be shipped out of province. Even after installing the new motherboard, the computer still would not turn on, and the team still did not know what was wrong internally. After back-and-forth, the manager offered to replace the damaged PC case and reimburse the cost of the new motherboard, which I appreciated. However, I am now forced to take my computer to Memory Express for proper diagnosis and repair. To make matters worse, after all of this, I attempted to cancel the monthly membership I had been encouraged to purchase. What was not clearly explained was that although it is advertised as a monthly payment, it requires a minimum 12-month commitment unless cancelled within the first 30 days. Since I was outside that window, I had to pay an additional $210 to cancel a service I no longer wanted or needed. What should have been a straightforward repair turned into over a month of poor communication, misinformation, lost time and physical damage to my pc. As a university student, I rely heavily on my computer for schoolwork, and this experience caused an incredible amount of unnecessary stress. I cannot recommend repair services at this location. At no point did anyone from the downtown location apologize or proactively follow up regarding the delays, confusion, or damage to my computer. Do not use the Geek Squad services here.

I would i love to give -100 stars, the lady i talked to was so rude you ask speak to someone else because I couldn’t understand what she is saying and she didn’t listen and started talking over me I had to end the call and call them talk to someone else I would not recommended even paying their plan. And to the love of god give them better headphones with mind because the English with her was crazy.

While my initial face-to-face interactions with geek squad were great, including ways to save money on my laptop repairs, they failed to update me when there were changes to my services, lost a lot of my data, and are completely unavailable by phone even when I filed a complaint to their call centre they called me back when I was unavailability and told me to just come in “if indeed there is a problem”. I had to get my laptop battery replaced and also upgrade to an SSD. The reason I did not just buy a new laptop was because I had some very expensive and now unavailable software running on it. They did not inform me the battery was unavailable and just went ahead with the ssd upgrade and did not let me reconsider. When I got home, while some my files had been transferred over (but oddly disorganized as if someone went through and picked what they thought was important - but still missing key files). Not a single one of my programs was transferred. Not even Microsoft office or the free adobe acrobat reader. It basically was as if I got a brand new computer. They seem pretty useless, taking shortcuts and following internet tutorials or something. I will return since I refuse to pay to have these programs transferred over when that was my initial concern but never again will I be back. The fact that I can’t even talk to them on the phone about the process is ridiculous. I am a student and do not have a car, nor can I be without a computer, nor do I want to come into the store unnecessarily amidst a pandemic.
