- AHAsch HawthornJul 19, 20251.0FEDERAL LAW CODE 1708 specifically addresses theft of mail, which includes forgery or UNAUTHORIZED SIGNING FOR PACKAGES, making it a punishable offense. Postal employees are NOW signing for Signature required packages, without even attempting to get a signature from the recipient. Not only are they breaking federal law code 1708 but this also makes it look like someone else forged the recipients signature, another illegal action. Felony forgery: Forging someone else's signature on a package requiring a signature typically constitutes forgery, which is generally classified as a felony in most jurisdictions. The specific charges could include: 1) Primary- even if seemingly done for convenience (like signing for a neighbor's package), it's still technically illegal since you're misrepresenting your identity on an official document. The legal system doesn't typically recognize "good intentions" as a defense for forgery. If this involves intercepting someone else's mail or packages, federal postal crimes could apply, which carry additional penalties. (Does not matter if you are a postal service worker). But good luck getting the sheriff to take a complaint report about it - the one I spoke with told me that it was on my head for not having the delivery instructions more accurate or requiring ID with signature. Typically, signature required by an adult over 21+ is good enough. But this is under the senders/shipper control as to how it is shipped - not at all like 'doordash' which the sheriff compared it with... Someone broke the law by signing for someone else's package, who lives alone in a 3 story 40 unit apartment building, but sure make it the package recipients fault!
- SMSuzanne MakiAug 21, 20211.0Within a week they had messed up two deliveries. They sent a notification that both had been delivered and they were not. My husband works from home and is 8 feet away from our front door. The second time it happened again, the notification said it was delivered and this time to an individual at our address, but we were home at the time they said it was delivered. And no individual here received it. The post office is costing us money. We think they are delivering it to the wrong address with the same house number, different street and are not looking at the full address. The first time it happened they had done absolutely nothing to even try to resolve it. And that was our son's Birthday present by the way. The post office needs to inservice their mail carriers to make sure this stops happening. Others have complained about the same issues on the community page. Do something about it, please!
