In the early morning on Monday 02/24/2025, I discovered that this Post Office's lobby door was locked, indicating that it is secured after hours. Consequently, I could not access the lobby drop to mail anything. In addition, if you have a PO Box, then you can not retrieve your mail. However, you can still use the outside blue collection box to mail only envelopes, which I did.

Really getting tired of how lazy this post office is. I understand that you guys are understaffed and over worked and have respected that fact until now. Lately your workers serving my route have smashed boxes and other packages into my mailbox, tho they do not fit, and have damaged quite a few of my orders, orders that cannot be fulfilled by any local vendor and on which my livelihood depends. Will be setting up surveillance and begin seeking legal council. You guys really need to do better.

If we could give the PO and employees a negative number we would. This PO is terrible now that you can't get your mail after hours, on the weekends and some of us don't want to go there during PO hours due to health issues. Earlier this week we learned of new information about why the PO lobby was closed on November 19, 2022. It seems that earlier the Postmaster had resigned herself to letting a homeless person stay in the lobby at night as long as they came later at night and left early in the morning. This apparently escalated when the weather got colder and so the Postmaster felt she had no option but to close the lobby to everyone in off hours. There are local resources for the homeless and free bus transportation on our Island so it seems there was no need to tolerate or accommodate someone sleeping in the lobby at night. This whole issue seems to have happened because of the negligence of the Postmaster and should have been addressed immediately by someone of authority. It is not her place to provide a sleeping area where people come and go to get their mail and packages during off hours. To add insult to injury, now we can't even mail anything in the drop box outside because it has been damaged and there is no timeline for fixing it. A week ago we had to drive to Freeland to mail a bill in order to use a drop box. That is ridiculous and certainly an inconvenience for everyone. We wrote to the Postmaster asking if it wasn't possible to get some night security down there so that the PO could remain open and also on the weekends but to no avail. Her solution was we could come in the early morning when someone opens the building. Well, we can't see if someone is there from our home so why would we go sit down there waiting for someone to open the building. We have not gotten our mail since November 22, 2022 so we haven't gotten any Christmas cards or time-sensitive mail since then. Very frustrating when we pay $166.00 a year for a box which is supposed to be accessible 24/7.

The fact that the lobby is closed really removed the convenience of having a personal post office box. While I understand the reasons for the short term after hours closure, the fact that this is still going on is unacceptable. I (and all the other box holders) paid for a box and expected access under under the conditions we agreed to in our contract. That you are now withholding access is really a breach of that contract. Very disappointed you haven’t come up with a solution.

Friendly post office workers, quick service, shirt lines and convenient location off highway and ferry.
