I am a Navy veteran and entrepreneur, and I’ve had this Google profile for over 10 years without ever leaving a negative review. As a small business owner, I understand what it takes to serve the public with grace, humility, and a sense of community. Unfortunately, my wife and I received none of that at The UPS Store #3461, located at 26 Towne Centre Way in Hampton, VA 23666. The treatment we received yesterday was not just rude—it was hostile, unprovoked, and borderline dangerous. We entered the store with several small photo frames to ship. My wife approached a station marked “Self-Service Drop Off,” which included various materials like small plastic bags. There were no signs indicating that these materials were restricted or intended exclusively for Amazon customers. Based on the layout and lack of signage, we reasonably assumed they were available for general use. We received no greeting or offer of assistance. After using the bags, an employee abruptly told us—without inquiry or courtesy—that the bags were only for Amazon shipments. My wife respectfully explained that there was no signage to that effect and immediately began removing the items. She even asked if the bags were available for purchase and was told no. She then walked to Dollar Tree, purchased party favor bags for $1.25, and returned to pack the frames. While on the phone with our business partner, she quietly mentioned that we’ve maintained a mailbox at this store for over 10 years. She noted that she planned to take a photo of the station to document the absence of signage—because, as small business owners, we believe in raising concerns constructively rather than venting publicly. Before she could finish packing, the employee suddenly and loudly stated, “You were talking and complaining, so we’re not going to ship your items. You’re not allowed to do business here.” We were stunned. I had done nothing but comply respectfully, and my wife had done the same. I calmly attempted to explain the situation, but the employee continued to escalate. The employee continued to scream at us. As we gathered our belongings and walked toward the exit, my wife then said, “We're educated with emotional intelligence and smart enough not to argue” The employee responded, “Are you saying I’m not educated/smart?” and proceeded to follow us outside the store, screaming in a threatening manner: “What’s your box number? I’m going to cancel your box!” She continued yelling across the parking lot. At no point did we raise our voices or act inappropriately. Her actions were aggressive, unprofessional, and completely unprovoked. We have held a mailbox at this location for more than 10 years. What happened during this visit was so egregious that we have submitted a formal complaint to UPS Corporate, requesting a full investigation—including a review of in-store and exterior camera footage from Monday, June 9th, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. After reading other reviews, we are deeply concerned about the ongoing pattern of behavior at this location. UPS customers deserve better—for the safety, respect, and dignity of the community this store is supposed to serve. We encourage other small business owners to seriously reconsider doing business with the UPS Store if this is how customers are treated. No one deserves to be harassed, especially while conducting business respectfully. This is why I’m leaving a negative review today. We will continue to pursue a full investigation plus more with UPS at the corporate level. I sincerely hope the owner of this franchise takes these concerns seriously. As fellow business owners, we understand that sometimes employees may not reflect our values—and we deserve the opportunity to address issues when they arise. I have also included pictures of the self-serve area.
