I am writing this review to express how poorly I was treated at the Bassett Post Office during my recent visit. I arrived about 20 minutes before closing time and waited in line like everyone else. The employee working that day was polite to the customers ahead of me, but when it became my turn, her tone and attitude changed completely. I felt that I was treated differently because of my race. I was the only person in line who looked different from the others, and the way the employee spoke to me was noticeably more rude and dismissive. I did not have a QR code and was unfamiliar with the shipping process, so I asked for help. She rudely told me to write my name and the recipient’s name on the box. I followed her instructions and then returned to ask where I should write the address, assuming she would give me access to a computer or form like she had done for other customers. Instead, she raised her voice and said, “There is no address on this box.” I apologized and explained that I thought she would give me a computer to enter the address. Her response was, “You know what, never mind. I don’t have time for you.” This made me feel embarrassed and disrespected. When she asked for the zip code, I clearly provided it, but she acted as if she couldn’t hear or understand me. While paying, I was asked to rate my experience on the payment screen, and I honestly selected how I felt. She sarcastically said, “Wow, thank you.” I calmly replied that I was just being honest. She then said she couldn’t help me with another package because it was going to Canada and she was closing in 10 minutes. I told her that regardless of closing time, she should not speak to customers with an attitude. She refused to continue the conversation, and I pointed out that I had been respectful and had done nothing wrong. Other customers were present and witnessed how this adult employee treated me, a Hispanic minor. I left feeling disrespected, embarrassed, and discriminated against. I believe customers deserve to be treated with patience, respect, and fairness, regardless of race or age. I hope this issue is taken seriously so no one else has to experience what I did.
