I had a very unpleasant experience at the Monona Staples while returning some Amazon items on May 20, 2026. I had six items to return and the process was quick, but the customer service was rude. The employee who took the returns never even looked at me and made no indication that he heard any of my few remarks as I presented the items. When I first arrived, I needed a water so I had picked one up before starting the returns. When the returns were done all he said to me was "you're buying that water? Go to the back of the line." (He pointed to the other register). He then proceeded to check out the people in line behind me. It seemed strange to me that he didn't just take my money for the water, but for whatever reason he just started helping the next person in line, so, okay. I got in line behind the customers waiting at the other end of the same counter, two feet away. After I paid, the checker didn't ask if I wanted a receipt, nor did he thank me for my business, he just looked up and very loudly said "next customer!" It took me a moment to put my change away and hang my bag on my walker to get out of the way, but he had moved on to the next customer when I said, sarcastically, "thank you". He looked up with a look his face like he wondered what my problem was. I will say, they were a little busy and it was thirty minutes to closing time, but I did apologize for arriving late - although neither checker acknowledged my apology, and, as I said, the return process went smoothly and the customers didn't seem to be impatient. Just the checkers. I'm not sure if they just don't like taking the returns for Amazon or if they just don't like their jobs. It was just a very unpleasant experience.

I would like to file a formal complaint regarding my recent experience at Staples. The customer service in this store was very disappointing. The older man working at the cashier had an unfriendly attitude and acted as if it bothered him whenever customers asked where items were located. In addition, there were two employees near the entrance on the right side who seemed uninterested in helping customers. Many people appeared confused and lost while trying to find products, and instead of assisting, the employees simply looked around without offering help. The only employee who actually tried to assist customers was a younger man working in one of the aisles. He at least attempted to guide people, but unfortunately he did not seem properly informed about where products were actually located. After reading other customer reviews, I noticed that many people describe experiences very similar to mine. This clearly shows a pattern of poor customer service and lack of attention toward the public. Overall, this was a very negative shopping experience. Customers should feel welcomed, respected, and properly assisted when visiting the store. I hope management takes these complaints seriously and improves both employee attitude and customer service training.

I stopped by this Staples location on Tuesday, May 5 to pick up a completed print order a few minutes before closing after getting delayed in traffic on the Beltline. I went to the copy and print area—no one there. Another customer and I waited for several minutes before trying to track someone down. When I asked an associate at the main checkout for help, I was told, “uh... you have to go to copy and print over there,” and sent back… to the still-empty counter. Eventually, another associate confirmed that the print-and-copy employee had already left for the day. When I asked if anyone else could retrieve my already-completed pickup order, I was told by an employee that it was “the copy and print person's job” before they shuffled off, and no one made any attempt to help. So to summarize: I was in the store before closing, my order was ready, multiple employees were aware of the situation, and yet no one could or would hand me my order. I understand staffing issues happen. I used to work in customer service and retail. I’m not sure how an entire store couldn't complete a basic pickup because one employee left early. The lack of ownership and effort here was honestly baffling. This should have been a 30-second interaction. Instead, I left empty-handed, frustrated, and frazzled, having to go back home (back onto the Beltline, no less) empty-handed.

This is the second time I've ordered print services through the Monona Staples. Both times the project was not ready on time. The print quality was poor despite looking good in the proof. Go to Walgreens. Fast service, better hours, better quality.
