12 Oct ~6:30 PM – Absolutely Horrible Customer Service from Manager Mark
This was easily one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had at a UPS location, and what makes it even more disappointing is that the poor service came directly from the manager, Mark.
I received a package delivered by UPS that arrived with the box torn up and already open. Naturally, I needed to return the item. When I brought it to this location, rather than showing any understanding or offering even the slightest assistance, Mark insisted that I pay $3.50 for a return label and another $5.00 for tape just to close the damaged box.
That’s $8.50 in additional charges just to return an item that UPS delivered in a damaged, open box!
What made the situation even more frustrating was that, while I was there, a woman came in with a box that needed to be taped. Mark taped her box without charging her for the tape. However, when it was my turn, he insisted that I pay $5.00 for the same basic service. This inconsistent treatment was extremely disappointing and made the situation feel unfair.
I’ve returned countless packages over the years and have never encountered a location so unwilling to provide such a basic courtesy. Charging $5.00 for a few pieces of tape to close a box that was already damaged during delivery is absolutely ridiculous.
Looking at other reviews, it also seems like this is part of a broader pattern of poor customer service involving Mark. Several customers have described similar concerns about his attitude and treatment of customers. Based on these reviews and my own experience, I honestly don’t understand how he is a manager. A manager should set the standard for professionalism and customer service, not contribute to repeated complaints.
What bothered me most wasn’t even the money. It was Mark’s terrible attitude, lack of professionalism, and complete disregard for customer service. As the manager, he should be setting the standard for how customers are treated. Instead, he made an already frustrating situation even worse.
I understand that individual UPS locations may have policies regarding packaging supplies and printing labels. However, there’s a difference between enforcing a policy and demonstrating basic courtesy and common sense. If customers are going to be charged for taping a box, that policy should be applied consistently to everyone.
The fact that a manager couldn’t extend the simple courtesy of a few pieces of tape to me, while taping another customer’s box without charging her, speaks volumes about the customer service at this location.
I would strongly encourage anyone considering this location to take their business elsewhere. There are plenty of shipping locations that understand the importance of treating customers with respect and applying their policies fairly.
Extremely disappointing experience. Mark and this location’s management need to do significantly better.
