This has to be one of the worst ran UPS stores from an hours standpoint. They consistently change hours and don’t adjust online. They close early with notes on paper on the door, and have some of the most limited weekend hours. The staff on the other hand are amazing.

This was a couple weeks ago, but I wanted to share my experience at the UPS Store on Pump Rd after recently doing another shipment myself from home.
I usually go to the UPS Store on Gaskins/Gayton and always receive excellent service, but unfortunately my experience at the Pump Rd location was the complete opposite.
I came in needing the exact same type of shipment I had done previously at the Gayton location. One employee initially started helping me and understood what I wanted, but another employee/supervisor interrupted him and flat-out told him “No, you can’t do that.” She then pulled me aside to handle it herself.
At the Gayton location, I previously paid around $40 total for two notarizations plus return shipping. This location quoted me around the same amount, so I assumed pricing was comparable. What I was NOT told clearly was that they were charging for BOTH directions using UPS 2nd Day Air. I specifically wanted a cheaper ground option, which the original employee seemed ready to help me with before being overridden. I didn’t realize the total had jumped to nearly $80 until it was already processed.
To make matters worse, the package was local mail and not urgent at all. The “2nd Day Air” delivery (that i did not ask for) ended up taking basically the same amount of time as standard UPS Ground would have anyway.
Another issue that really bothered me was the handling of notarization questions. An employee loudly announced to multiple customers that they “do not notarize anything in a foreign language,” even when people were not asking about that. Virginia law only requires the notarial certificate itself to be in English the notary’s role is to verify the signature, not interpret the document contents.
I was also uncomfortable because the employee started looking through the private documents I was shipping and asking questions about them. That felt unnecessary and invasive.
The Gayton/Gaskins location always explains pricing options clearly and lets customers choose the service level they want. This Pump Rd location felt more like “take what I give you.”
I even tried contacting customer service afterward. I spent forever on hold, got transferred to billing after they had already closed, then later was told I needed to contact UPS Store customer relations separately who was also closed at the time. After all the time and frustration, I honestly gave up and took the loss.
What’s frustrating is that afterward I bought my own labels, postage scale, and supplies and shipped another package to and return shipping by myself to Virginia Beach for far less money than this “local” shipment cost me. I dropped it off at a UPS Access Point inside CVS with no issues.
At this point, I honestly no longer need a UPS Store. It ended up being cheaper and easier to print labels from home, use my own scale, and drop packages off at UPS Access Points instead.
I will never use the Pump Rd location again. I would rather go to the Gayton/Gaskins store or just handle shipping myself from home.
Also, if you need notarization services especially for documents related to travel or use abroad, I would NOT recommend this location. I understand notarization decisions are ultimately up to the individual notary’s discretion, but the information being given about Virginia notarial law was misleading and presented as fact. Customers deserve accurate information and clear explanations, not blanket statements that create confusion.
Very disappointing experience overall.

Rudely (and that’s being generous) “greeted” by an employee who appeared to be a manager or someone I charge. She curtly said, “we’re NOT open yet” ten minutes prior to 1:00 p.m. Could be easily confused with the level of “service” provided by USPS on Starling Drive. This is why I use FedEx.
