  Today I went in simply to drop off a package with a prepaid label. I’m a reseller, so I ship packages regularly and deal with different shipping carriers often. My package was approximately 3’ x 3’ x 1’ and was wrapped in brown shipping paper over a box. Depending on the box, contents, and shipment, this is something I occasionally do. I also placed FRAGILE stickers and two labels that said, “Please Don’t Lay Flat.” As soon as the employee saw the package, he read the labels, looked at me with an attitude and immediately said, “I can’t guarantee you anything. This paper is going to get ripped. I can’t guarantee it will still be on there when it gets there.” I politely responded, “No worries, there’s a box underneath.” Instead of simply accepting the package, he continued: “I can’t guarantee you it will arrive safe!” At that point I finally asked, “All of this over my packaging and labels?” I completely understand that no employee can guarantee exactly what happens to a package throughout the shipping process. I never asked for a guarantee. I was simply dropping off a prepaid package. When I mentioned that many drivers DO respect handling labels, he responded that he knows the drivers. Well, so do I. I’m married to a FedEx driver, and he is actually the one who recommended that I clearly label packages like this because he personally respects those instructions when handling customers’ shipments. That is part of what FedEx calls the Purple Promise — making every FedEx experience outstanding. Unfortunately, the attitude and unnecessary interaction I received today certainly didn’t reflect that. A simple, “Just so you know, we can’t guarantee the handling instructions will be followed,” would have been perfectly understandable and professional. There was absolutely no reason to make a routine package drop-off into an unpleasant interaction. Customer service and HOW you speak to people matters — especially when they are regular shipping customers.

  This place is cleaner, friendlier, and more organized than any solo Fedex store I've ever been to. I had very low expectations since it's inside a Walmart, and it feels weird to walk into Walmart with bags full of items you need to ship. Loss prevention always assume you're a criminal, but I was pleasantly surprised how well run this Fedex was.
