I've been using this Staples print center for quite some time to print my bar menus. Although I live 45 minutes away, I continue coming to this location because the usual print associates are consistently professional, helpful, and able to complete my order in about 10 minutes. I submit the file online and bring my own specialty paper, since Staples doesn't carry it, and they've always accommodated this without issue. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was completely different. I arrived around 6:30 p.m., knowing the store closes at 7:00 p.m., which has always been enough time for this simple job. The associate helping me, Tara, immediately seemed irritated and began explaining why she wasn't going to print my order. She said it might take too long and that she had already started cleaning up for closing. She wouldn't even look at the file to see what the job involved. I was shocked. I explained that I had driven 45 minutes specifically to have this printed and that her coworkers routinely complete the exact same job in about 10 minutes. Her response was that those employees were supervisors and she was not. Rather than offering any solution or even a simple apology, she simply refused to help. I work in hospitality, where customer service is everything. My job is to create great experiences, solve problems, and make guests feel valued. If customers arrive at our restaurant at closing time, we still serve them because they're our guests. I understand there are times when saying "no" is necessary, but this didn't feel like one of those times. It felt like someone who simply didn't want to take on one more task before the end of the shift. This experience was disappointing because it was such a stark contrast to the excellent service I've consistently received from the rest of the print team. I hope Staples provides Tara with additional customer service training, as her attitude did not reflect the level of professionalism I've come to expect from this location.
