Um, FedEx should just close this location down. I came at 10:54 on a Friday, during business hours, and when I looked in from the outside, I didn’t see anyone but opened the door. As soon as I stepped in and could see the top of someone’s head behind the register, the man working looked up and huffed immediately. “Can I help you?” He said in the most irritable tone. I told him I was dropping off my laptop to my old employer who provided a QR code that would bill for packing and shipping. “Do you have the account number because if you don’t you have to go to another location” he said the irritation in his voice growing stronger. I said I had the RMA number and QR code. He said I would have to pay for shipping if I don’t have the account number.
Since it was 90 something degrees outside, I decided I could pay for it if it was that big of a deal. He sighed heavily and told me to go weigh the item. I took it out to put it on the scale and his tone went south really quick: “You don’t even have it packed?? No, we don’t do that, you have to go somewhere else. The closest is 45 Broadway.” I asked him if this was a FedEx Office Print & Ship Center and he answered “Yeah but this is a HOTEL so we don’t do that.” I was kind of floored by the response because there is shipping materials all along the perimeter but I left without any additional exchange so he could go back to scrolling on his phone. There is literally no need for this location in the back hallway of a hotel if they’re going to insist on charging you even if you have a QR code, or pick and choose what they do?
I visited this location for the first time on Monday around 12:45pm to ship a package using a prepaid QR code. When I arrived, the reception security gate was rolled down with a sign indicating the staff were out for lunch until 1:30pm.
I noticed a male employee behind the gate and showed him my QR code, but he declined to assist and stepped away for lunch. I then noticed a female employee and showed her the QR code while verbally explaining my situation. During this time, the male employee returned and began pulling up the gate. I stepped slightly closer so I could hear him better while he was speaking.
At that point, the female employee stated that I was stepping behind the gate, which was not the case. The male employee questioned me about this, and I calmly clarified that I had not crossed the boundary and suggested they review CCTV if there was any concern. I was prepared to wait until 1:30pm if necessary in order to ship my package. Unfortunately, no apology was offered after the misunderstanding.
When my package was eventually processed, I was also informed of a service fee, which had not been previously communicated. Overall, the experience felt unnecessarily uncomfortable. In comparison, the service I received from Ismail at the 6 Barclay St location was significantly better.I visited this location for the first time on Monday around 12:45pm to ship a package using a prepaid QR code.
