I’ve been coming to this post office about three times a week for over a year now because I regularly ship packages. Every employee I’ve dealt with, especially the woman with the blue eyes and the younger gentleman, has always been friendly and professional. I’ve also interacted with the manager before, and he was very kind. (See previous review)
Unfortunately, today’s experience was completely different.
The employee involved identified herself as “Q” (I’m not sure how it’s spelled). She is the African American woman working at the front counter. (And no this isn’t about race, I’m married to a black man, I simply don’t know how her name is spelled as she wore no identification on her uniform.)
I walked in carrying a few items and left them on the counter in the mail room while I grabbed two different mailing envelopes to see which size I needed. As I walked back to retrieve my belongings, she immediately told me I had to pay for the envelope before walking out. I calmly explained that I was only getting my items and had no intention of leaving with anything unpaid.
After packaging my item, I told her which shipping option I wanted. She sarcastically replied, “Answer the questions on the screen. You should know what to do.” The comment was unnecessary and unprofessional.
The conversation became even more uncomfortable when I accidentally hit yes to a question that should have been a no on the screen to which she called me out on, and I responded that the employee who usually helped me is very kind and helpful and usually goes through the questions for me no matter how many times I go a week , She does her job thoroughly . she insisted she knew I had “a problem” with her, which I never said or implied (I’ve never even seen or spoken to her before). I simply mentioned that the employee who usually helps me is very kind. She became defensive and told me she had worked there much longer and had never had issues with anyone else. I never asked about her history with other customers, so it felt like she was trying to justify her behavior instead of simply providing good customer service.
What was also disappointing is that the manager was standing right there next to her and never stepped in to help de-escalate the situation and or redirect the conversation. It felt like I was being talked down to, and bathed into an argument. I felt she kept being passive aggressive, and he stood there and said and did nothing.
I ship from this location frequently and spend a considerable amount of money here, so this was the first time I’ve ever left feeling disrespected. I don’t expect special treatment. I simply expect to be treated with courtesy and professionalism.
I want to be clear that this review is about my experience with this specific employee, not the post office as a whole. Every other employee I’ve encountered has consistently been courteous and professional.
I hope this review serves as a reminder that customer service requires patience, respect, and professionalism. A defensive or sarcastic attitude only creates unnecessary conflict and leaves customers with a negative experience. Perhaps Q should brush up on her customer service skills.

Wanted me to buy a full roll of tape for one piece of tape to tape a small box that had pre paid postage.

Delivery service is acceptable; the problem is outgoing mail. In the last year, I've had one letter go completely MIA and two others take roughly three weeks to go from Andover, NJ to Philadelphia (a two hour drive...) Other people in the area have reported similar experiences.
When I mentioned this, the person behind the counter listened with a bored expression and said nothing. I'm not sure I even got a shrug from them.
Now I take my outgoing mail to Sparta or Newton instead of the post office three minutes from my house.
