To send a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) for someone to mail back to you, you cannot use standard printed meter labels or kiosk shipping labels at the Post Office. USPS printed meter labels and kiosk labels are date-stamped and are only valid for the day they are purchased or printed. If the recipient tries to mail the envelope days or weeks later, USPS will reject it or return it for insufficient/expired postage. You have three primary options to set up a return envelope properly: Option 1: Use Physical Postage Stamps (Best for Regular Envelopes) This is the simplest method for standard letter or flat-envelope mail. Calculate the Postage: Ask the clerk at the counter how much postage your return envelope will need based on its size and expected return weight (e.g., standard 1 oz letter, extra weight, or flat envelope). Buy Loose Stamps: Purchase Forever Stamps or high-denomination mail stamps (such as $1, $5, or Priority Mail stamps) in loose form. Affix to Return Envelope: Stick the stamps directly onto your self-addressed return envelope. Fold & Send: Place the stamped return envelope inside your main outgoing letter/package. Because Forever stamps do not expire and have no date attached, the sender can drop it in the mail whenever they are ready. Option 2: Buy a "Forever Prepaid Flat Rate Envelope" If you are sending documents or small items via Priority Mail (tracked, 1–3 day delivery), USPS sells envelopes with built-in postage that never expires. At the Retail Counter / USPS Online Store: Ask the clerk for a Priority Mail Forever Prepaid Flat Rate Envelope. How it works: The postage is pre-printed directly onto the packaging and registered with your return address. It stays valid indefinitely regardless of future postal rate increases. Sending: Fold this envelope inside your outgoing mail. The recipient just inserts their documents, seals it, and drops it in any USPS mailbox. Option 3: Print a Prepaid Label Online via USPS Click-N-Ship If you need a tracked shipping label (Priority Mail or USPS Ground Advantage) rather than stamps: Go to USPS.com and use Click-N-Ship. Set the "From" address as the sender’s address and the "To" address as your own address. Select a Mailing Date up to 3 days in advance (giving the other person a buffer window to mail it out). Print the label on plain paper, fold it up, and include it in your package along with an empty envelope/box for them to attach it to.

The great historical institution that is the United States Postal Service is dead! Costner is rolling in his grave. The level of incompetence at this location is astounding. A task as simple as mailing an envelope containing a prepaid return envelope was incomprehensible to the team there. Truly an embarrassing example of modern American institutional failure.
