  Half of an overnight rush print service, a memorial prayer card to be given out at a family members funeral, was submitted online and creatively adjusted after multiple print services staff assumed the file was incorrect. Although their intention was appreciated, they failed to contact me to double check and ran with their assumption, printing it the way they assumed it should have been printed. At pickup, we were met with an awkward and uncomfortable experience, as the staff member had spent hours reprinting and cutting the prayer cards to an incorrect size. My partner and I had to stay firm that these needed to be correct and asap, as the funeral was the next day in a town 3 hours away. For context, we wanted a specific size that Staples did not offer online, for pickup, and for the timeframe we needed. The size was slightly bigger than a business card, so I set up the file on a larger size, the 4.25 x 5.5 size, with crop marks that I would then manually cut down to the size I truly needed the piece to be. In the end, they were reprinted the way we needed them to be within the hour but not without meeting resistance. Yes, the file did not have special instructions listed but the creative decisions made by Staples Printing Services were not cleared and should not have been made. Having worked with many a printer for my work over the years, this was the first time a printer followed their own drumbeat and made creative choices without instructions. Hours were wasted when we could have quickly chatted over the phone. The original files that were initially printed (correctly) were thrown away before pivoting to the incorrect printing. Additionally, a different member of the staff made a remark to a family member hours after the initial failed pickup experience saying ‘next time we need a custom size, we should call the store’. I very much did not appreciate that remark: it was 1:00 AM the night before this job was submitted. No real apologies were given to us and no adjustment to the rush print job fee or any type of effort beyond reprinting it was offered.

  Shopping made easy is their slogan. Maybe their employees show learn it. I made an online order to pick up. It was paid for. All my husband had to do was to go in and pick it up. I sent him my email from Stapes stating my order was ready with the order number, in case there was an issue. He gets there and the woman told him he needed the bar code on the 2nd.email they sent me. Problem was they never sent me another email with a bar code. He told her to use the order number to look up the order. She said she couldnt use that. Couldn't, didn't know how to, or the bar code made her job easier. My husband then had to then wait for the manager to finish picking up the order. Staples, you need to learn what customer service is and do better.

  While the invites to my son’s party were printed accurately, there was a handwritten note slid in between the envelopes that said, “If you like polar bears so much stop using AI”. A bit annoying and unprofessional.

  Slow, so slow. I dread going to do returns here. Most of the employees look dead inside. Idk what kind of pep talk you need to do, but these employees seem like they are lost souls.
