My sister and I visited to make a return. She overheard Eric at the shipping counter speaking about us with racist disrespectful remarks with a woman who cut us off there and rushed to the wrong side of the lane when we were in our right side of the lane waiting in line. He still proceeded to state racist remarks to us and we stood up for ourselves. We are from the area born/raised and are not transplants to North Baltimore County like maybe Eric and Emily the manager are. Eric speaking about fighting randomly to begin with was unsafe like he must want to do to women customers who are just waiting in line not saying anything who have been raised with class unlike his insecure self. It’s incredibly unsettling to know nothing has changed about the blatant racism after growing up there in the 80’s and 90’s. It was reported to Emily who did nothing but take Eric’s side as she was told in the end and was not treating us with any empathy or dignity and kept telling us he was just joking which is downright downplaying the harassment to make sure we felt unwelcome and unprotected. My sister had to remind her about what microagressions are since she kept pretending she didn’t understand what we were saying about what took place with her employee. We minded our business from the start and just were quietly to ourselves when someone looks at your skin color, senses your confidence, and starts talking reckless about us to a stranger and customer they don’t even know. To not want to handle an employee attacking us verbally and even hiring people who don’t do their jobs without racial bias is so disturbing in 2026. Everyone in the store that day needs bias training, customer service courses for just looking and doing absolutely nothing, or to be fired and replaced. My sister also spoke with corporate about Emily and Eric right when we left which I appreciated that person being understanding.

I couldn't get anyone to help me, they all just sat there as if they're on break. I asked for help printing a document and the asso just told me to "read the business"

Here’s a forceful review that sticks to the facts you described while clearly conveying your frustration:
I had one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I’ve ever had at Staples.
I stopped in on a Saturday morning to have just two balloons filled with helium for my son’s birthday party. There were only one customer in line, two cashiers, and several other employees in the store, yet I was told they were “too busy” to help me and that I would need to come back in an hour.
Instead, I walked across the street to Dollar Tree. They happily filled both balloons, and I timed it—it took 25 seconds.
Think about that. Staples couldn’t spare 25 seconds to help a customer make his son’s birthday a little more special.
This wasn’t about being overwhelmed or understaffed. It was about a complete lack of customer service and a clear message that my business wasn’t worth even half a minute of their time. Employees who can’t be bothered to spend 25 seconds helping a paying customer don’t seem to care about the people walking through their doors.
Needless to say, Dollar Tree earned my business that day, and Staples lost it. If this is how they treat customers over a simple request, I’ll gladly spend my money elsewhere.

Prices for products there, if they have it, are off the charts high. I was looking for a pad of 11 x 17 graph paper and they had 3, half the number of pages as Amazon ad more than twice the price. I bought mine from Amazon. I understand that having it today is sometimes urgent, and brick and mortar stores have higher overhead and need to charge a little more, but more than twice the price for half a pad is absurd. I'll really desperately need a new pen cartridge to pay those prices. I can wait until tomorrow for it to be delivered at half the cost.

These employees do not even deserve one star for the complete lack of any customer care today. If you use Staples, you've surely seen their extensive marketing that they are now an affiliate of Party City for helium balloons. Today I went to order 3 bouquets of mylar balloons (6 balloons each bouquet) and have two charachter mylar balloons I ordered elsewhere filled with helium. The store supervisor Lou would not help me at the balloon counter. He rudely told me to basically pick the balloons off the wall and go stand in line at the cashier, pay for it and they will place the order. I did that. When I got to the cashier, she was clueless and also rude. She had no idea how to ring up my balloons and instead of coming to help her when she asked for help, Lou answered from 20 feet away (not doing anything but walking around). When it came time to ring up the purchase of helium for my own balloons, she again needed help and asked him over their wearable comms/mic system. Lou comes over with a measuring tape and literally measures my two mylar charachter balloons (that I bought elsewhere) and says one will be $10 and the other $15 to be filled with helium. When I said how can that be when each mylar I am buying in your store is $2.97 and it includes helium? In a very nasty tone he literally argues with me and says "helium is very expensive" and walks off. I then look at the cashier and ask her who the store manager is and she says "I don't know" while looking over at Lou and asking him out loud how does a customer find out who the store manager is (really, wow, playing games). He answers her that the store manager is Emily but if I want to request to speak with her I need to call the store (another wow). I look at her name tag and said what is your name for my report, and I say her name out loud so I will remember later - it is "Kailah". She then says in the rudest smart-alec attitude on purpose "my name is "Kaaay-lah" to which at this point all I said is "whatever". None of this experience from any of these employees is acceptable. What a disgrace to the Staples brand. Of course I called the store when I got home and was transerred to the other store supervisor on duty Lee (he actually was curteous) requesting Emily call me when she is in the store tomorrow. Icing on the cake is Lee says "if she doesn't call tomorrow (Fri), she will call you on Monday". Wow lol, another stellar customer experience moment. We will see if she actually calls as promised. In the meantime, stay far away. Order online from Amazon and find another place with actual customer CARE that can meet your helium and helium balloon needs. I am curious to see if my order is actually done correctly when I pick it up tomorrow or if their complete lack of customer service shenanigans will continue.
