I had a concerning experience at Staples, 265 Chelmsford Street in Chelmsford, MA, while shipping a UPS package. The associate helping me, Jeroham, told me I had to download the UPS app, create and pay for the shipment myself, and obtain a QR code because the Staples shipping system had supposedly changed. I told him I wanted to process and pay for the shipment directly in the store. After I questioned whether he was refusing to do that, he finally allowed me to enter the information into the Staples computer, and the shipment was processed normally. I paid $38.47 for UPS Ground and left the package with Staples. What concerns me most is what happened afterward. I have shipped packages before and have never had this situation where there is no actual shipping or acceptance information showing that UPS received the package. The tracking only shows that a label was created. Given the unusual interaction I had with this employee immediately before leaving my package in the store’s custody, and now seeing no UPS acceptance scan or movement on the shipment, I have legitimate questions about what happened to my package after I left and whether it was ever handed over to UPS. I am not accusing anyone of stealing or tampering with the package without evidence. That is exactly why I contacted Staples Corporate and requested that they investigate the package’s chain of custody, check when or whether it was transferred to UPS, and preserve and review the relevant surveillance footage and shipping records. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB. If you use this Staples location to ship through UPS, I strongly recommend keeping your receipt and checking your tracking afterward to make sure there is an actual UPS acceptance scan.
