I went to The UPS Store at 2740 Columbus St, Ottawa, IL (just off Route 23) to overnight a lock of my recently deceased mother’s hair to my aunt in South Australia. Because DNA degrades rapidly, I needed the fastest available shipping. I had already checked the website and knew overnight to Australia would be around $80–$160, but I was prepared to pay any amount.
When I asked the clerk what I needed to do, she immediately snapped “Do you know how expensive that’s going to be?” I calmly said yes, I had checked online $80 to $160. She then barked back that it would be “$200 to $400.” Why would it matter to her? She's not paying for it. I just wanted the envelope and a price. But instead of helping me, a blonde female employee but into the coversation, and proceeded to yell at me “There’s no true overnight to Australia!”
I already knew it was 1 to 3 days. I never asked for magic, I asked for the fastest option. What I got was an aggressive, insulting tirade from the staff instead of service. They attacked me for asking a simple question while I was grieving and trying to send a precious irreplaceable item.
This is not how you treat a customer, let alone someone in distress. If you can’t handle a shipping question without yelling and quoting wildly inflated prices, you shouldn’t be working in customer service.
To the owner/management
You have employees who are rude, uninformed, and hostile. I will never return to this location, and I will tell everyone I know to avoid it. This experience added stress to an already painful time. If you care about your reputation, you need to train your staff on basic respect and accurate pricing or find people who can handle the job.

The blonde woman in the store needs to be fired. Poor communication, unable to doing her job, and rude.
I'm generally able to get all my needs taken care of at this location, but I won't be going back. The blonde woman is so needlessly rude to customers. I had two bad interactions with her back-to-back. The first time, she curtly told me she didn't know how to scan documents and dismissed me to be helped by another person. The next day, I came in needing the same thing, and no one was up front to greet me. I wasn't bothered by this, but I started using the computer to look through my e-mail (this has never been an issue before) and she walked up front NOT to greet me, but rather to scold me for signing out of their e-mail and tell me that she's been having that problem with people all day. Put up a sign, then? I'm not your subordinate, don't talk to me like I am. I don't work with you. If you're having that issue, politely ask your customers not to sign out or leave a sign up. I can't stand being treated like I'm a bad customer when I haven't done anything except use the amenities offered. I worked in customer service for over 10 years of my life, and I would have never spoken to someone like that just because they signed out of an e-mail that was left often...a different person who works there quickly signed back in as if it was no issue. I don't see the problem lol. I understand times are very tough right now and customer service isn't an easy job, but I'm not your enemy. Everyone else who works here is very nice; it's just her that's a problem.
