- PPPRBAug 7, 20261.0On Mon., 08/04/2026, I became aware of how dysfunctional the USPS had become. I had a simple transaction which was to get a refund on an USPS money order which I had purchased and was still in possession of. The retail counter clerk at the Maywood, IL USPS was not very helpful or customer service oriented. The clerk replied that I needed the original paper receipt for the purchase of the money order to get a refund. I expressed that I had never been requested to provide the receipt before to get a refund for an USPS money order before that I had purchased and was in possession of. Like a parrot, the clerk just repeated the same answer. At this point, I just left as it was fruitless. I did not have the patience to go the route of asking to speaking to her manager, even though, I knew what the clerk had told me was “garbage”. Needless to say, I was able to complete the refund of the money order at a USPS in Wheaton, IL without any trouble and a smile. The Wheaton USPS simply asked for my identification and validated the money order through their computers. It sad that USPS has deteriorated to a point of where there is no uniformity and lack of consistency across locations. It is apparent that you have to go to certain USPS locations to receive quality service and a positive outcome.
