- BSBrandy SmithAug 26, 20261.0This post office seriously needs to improve its accessibility. My son uses a walker, and we use this post office regularly. There is a wheelchair-accessible ramp leading to the entrance, which is great—but once you actually get to the entrance, there are TWO doors to get through and no automatic door button. For my son, opening and maneuvering through these doors while using his walker isn't just inconvenient. He risks losing his balance and falling out of his walker every time. If I open the doors for him, I then have to figure out how to hold the door while making sure he can safely maneuver through it. I appreciate that there is a ramp, but accessibility shouldn't stop at the ramp. A person with a disability should be able to enter a public building as safely and independently as possible. It is frustrating to see accessibility treated like checking the bare minimum box instead of considering what someone with a mobility disability actually experiences from the parking lot all the way inside the building. Please consider installing automatic door openers/buttons on both entrance doors. This would make an enormous difference for my son and for other people who use walkers, wheelchairs, canes, or other mobility devices. A ramp gets someone to the door. An accessible entrance helps them get through it. When I asked the front desk staff member why they don't install buttons to open the doors for people like my son she wouldn't reply. She should've said "I agree they should. I'll talk to my manager". Having no response while my son is standing right next to me is giving the message him and others like him don't matter!!!
