Rude and unhelpful. I guess I should have expected that. It’s like walking into an alternate universe where no one cares or has a sense of urgency.

I would like to file a complaint regarding Clerk 2, who was working at this USPS location at approximately 7:00 a.m. on July 24. I am extremely dissatisfied with the way she treated us. Throughout the entire interaction, Clerk 2 was RUDE, DISMISSIVE, and UNPROFESSIONAL. We came to mail an international package. While I was outside looking for a parking space, my friend went inside first. She politely asked Clerk 2 if she could help place the package on the counter, but Clerk 2 refused and told her to wait for me or ask someone else. After my friend managed to place the package on the counter herself, Clerk 2 insisted that she rewrite the customs declaration because the description said “clothing,” even though we had used the same description on previous international shipments without any issues. After the form was rewritten, another customer kindly helped us place the package back onto the counter. Instead of continuing with our transaction, Clerk 2 chose to serve him first. When we explained that we had already spent a long time waiting, she loudly said, “YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL.” We had already thanked the customer, so her comment was unnecessary and embarrassing. When Clerk 2 finally processed our package, she simply said it was overweight but refused to tell us the actual weight or how much it exceeded the limit. Instead of offering any guidance, she IMPATIENTLY told us to take the package to another post office. Her behavior throughout the entire visit was unacceptable. We left feeling humiliated and disappointed by the way we were treated.

Clerk 2 is a racist. I came to the post office to mail an international package by myself. The package was very large and heavy. I struggled to lift it onto the counter and politely said, “I need help.” The clerk refused to assist me. Instead, she asked whether anyone was with me. I explained that my friend was parking the car, but she still refused to help and told me to wait for my friend or ask the security guard if he might help. She would not even make the slightest effort to assist me from her side of the counter. After I was finally able to get the package onto the counter, she immediately told me that I had to rewrite my entire customs declaration form. My form was not filled out incorrectly. The only issue she raised was that I had written “clothing” as the description of the contents. She insisted that USPS does not accept “clothing” and told me I had to write something more specific, such as “blouses.” I have mailed four international packages before using “clothing” as the description without any problem, so this requirement was inconsistent with my previous experiences. She told me to remove my package from the counter, step aside, and rewrite the entire form. After I finished rewriting the form, I returned and got back in line. My friend had temporarily stepped away to move the car, so I politely asked the gentleman behind me if he could help me lift the package back onto the counter. He kindly agreed, and I immediately thanked him. Although I had originally been ahead of him in line and only asked for his help lifting the package, the clerk decided to serve him first instead of continuing with my transaction. When I said that I was also in a hurry because I had already spent a significant amount of time rewriting the form, she stood up and loudly said: “This gentleman just helped you. You should be grateful.” I replied that I had already thanked him immediately after he helped me. Nevertheless, she continued to process his shipment first. When she finally returned to my package, she stated that the system would not allow the shipment, possibly because it was overweight. However, she refused to tell me the actual weight of the package or by how many pounds it exceeded the limit. She provided no guidance on how much weight I needed to remove or what options were available. At other USPS locations, employees have always told me exactly how many pounds the package exceeded the limit so that I could remove items and complete the shipment. This clerk did not provide any such assistance. Instead, in an impatient manner, she simply told me to take my package somewhere else and go to another post office. At the end of the interaction, I asked for her name because I intended to report what had happened. She replied with something that sounded like “Kurt two” while making a hand gesture indicating the number two. I could not determine whether that was her actual name or whether she was deliberately avoiding clearly identifying herself. To the best of my knowledge, she was the only clerk working at the counter during my visit, so USPS should be able to identify her through the work schedule and surveillance footage. I found her behavior throughout the entire interaction to be hostile, dismissive, and unprofessional. I believe I was treated differently because I am an Asian woman and because I speak with an accent. I left the post office feeling humiliated and unwelcome. I respectfully request that USPS conduct a formal investigation into this incident, review the surveillance footage, identify the employee involved, and take appropriate action. I would also appreciate being informed of the outcome of the investigation. No customer should be treated in this manner while simply trying to mail a package.
