People deserve to be treated with basic respect and courtesy. Today, I decided to get out of the house and into the real world. I’ve become somewhat introverted living in this city, and honestly, I believe this may be my last year in Atlanta. All I needed was a change-of-address form. Before getting in a long line, I politely said, “Excuse me,” and asked if they had any forms available. I was completely ignored. At first, I thought maybe they didn’t hear me, so I asked again. This time, both employees looked directly at me and still chose to ignore me. It was disappointing, disrespectful, and honestly shameful. I was already having a difficult day, and that interaction pushed me over the edge. I left feeling defeated and ended up in tears. A small act of kindness or simply acknowledging someone’s presence can make a huge difference. We never know what another person is carrying when they walk through the door.
