Yesterday 5/52026 I went to the main street post office to purchase a stamp. I arrived shortly after 3:30 pm only to find around 15 people waiting in the lobby area. The sign on the door read "out to lunch reopening at 3:30 pm. Unfortunately, it was already after 3:30 and they hadn't reopened. I as well as several others notice that the sign didn't specify the time that the lunch break closing starts. One gentleman state that he had arrived at 12:30 pm and they were already closed. Yes this bran6 had been closed for over 3 hours. Many of the people waiting were elder utilizing canes and walker. Some had arrived by foot and had decided to wait it out so they could get some service. It wasn't until 3:43 that the doors finally reopened and there was only one postal clerk to serve what was now a line of customers that lead out the door. I had never seen anything like this at a post office before in my 61 years of life. After stating on line for nearly 20 minutes finally another clerk submerged from the back. I am requesting the a new sign be posted that includes the start time of this lunch break closing. I would also like them to look into why this branch was closed on a Tuesday after for over 3 hours and lastly determine if this location is understaffed to provide adequate and timely services to the consumers off East Point. It would also be helpful if they had a bulletin board that listed how many clerks should be on duty including their names. Perhaps a vending machine in the lobby could be places so that customers could make transactions using this venting machine when the branch is closed for lunch. The machine could offer option to purchase stamps. Even mail off a package by having a compartment door with a scale similar to the ones the clerks use. The scale would determine the weight and cost to send the package and the customer could self pay using credit/ debit or tap and pay. The label would be printed and items could be then be places in a drop box. What ever it takes the united states post office needs to look into improving their services especially starting with their East Point main street location.
