- DADoug AndersonMar 31, 20153.0There was a time when I would talk about this post office, vis a vis the post office in Manhattan on Third Avenue and 90th street, and say it was spectacular. The people who worked there were real people people and enjoyed their job and made the post office a place you wanted to visit. It was robust, the lighting was bright............and that was only a few years ago. In New York, the people who worked there were unfriendly, surly, hated their jobs and had a real attitude. They didn't care that they caused huge lines. Purely "union workers" With the downsizing of the postal staff, our once terrific post office is a shadow of its former self. Yes, the women who work there are really nice and they do their job without a trace of "attitude".....actually, they are as helpful as before..... but the same space is darker (they actually keep most of the lights off), the number of people serving clients is smaller, the number of clients smaller. There is rarely more than one person handling clients at a time. It's sad. What's interesting is that there are still two post offices on this very small island. Might it not be better to have just one but stop the downhill slide?
