  In addition to the review written by my husband, I will say our first experience working with LuAnn was amazing. Not sure what's happened between then and now, but this experience was awful. It should not take 5 weeks to return a deposit for a deal that fell through. Further, to not offer an apology for not following through with sending back our deposit is not good business practice. Karly gave us false information about sending our money on more than one occasion. After the phone call of this morning and practically having to beg her to return our deposit, the least she could have done is written an apology rather than just email a tracking number. Unprofessionalism is an understatement. Glad there are other Title Ins. Companies in Naples so our next experience has a shot at going better than this one.

  I have used First American Title Company in Naples, FL about two years ago. The communication was seamless and the entire transaction moved flawlessly. HOWEVER, this second time around is a complete disaster. I had submitted an offer on a property with a $5000.00 deposit which was given to my real estate agent on the 15th of August. My agent stated that the check would be delivered to First American Title Co. and it would be cashed and held in escrow pending my offer being accepted by the sellers. Needless to say, neither the sellers nor I came to an agreement on a selling price of the property and we never executed a contract. My real estate agent notified (Karly) First American Title Co. of the same and requested that they issue a refund of my deposit. This was done on the 18th of August. I made a telephone call to First American Title Co. on September 4th and spoke to Karly. I stated that the deal and offer on the property was never accepted and a contract was never executed. Karly seemed a little confused as to why I was calling even though the details were explained to her in length. During this telephone call, she stated that she would forward a check to me and even confirmed my mailing address. On, September 14th I spoke to my real estate agent and we spoke about the fact that I have not yet received a refund. She assured me that she would speak to them, which she did and that I would be getting a telephone call from First American to resolve this issue. I received a call from Janice that morning and she assured me that she was cutting a check and sending it in the mail that very day. This did not happen. Fast forward to today, September 22, 2020…I called First American and spoke to LuAnn. I explained the reason for my call and demanded that Karly telephone me prior to 9:00 AM to resolve this issue. Karly did in fact return my telephone call before 9:00 AM. She did apologize, she did state that they did cut a check on September 2, 2020 but, they stopped payment on it because it may have gotten lost in the mail. Here’s the rub folks, Remember, I called them on September 4th and spoke to Karly. At no time during that conversation did she mention that a check was cut. On my conversation on the 4th, she was just being brought up to speed about the delay and the lack of processing in my refund. Bottom line folks, they dropped the ball and fell asleep at the wheel regarding this transaction. This “stop payment” was clearly an excuse for the lack of follow up at First American Title Co. on this transaction. Needless to say, Karly stated that she had my refund check in front of her and that she is putting it in a FedEx Priority Overnight and that she will email me a tracking number when it is completed. She did in fact email a tracking number and we will see if this transaction ever gets resolved. There was not one good reason for this or any other transaction to be held up for five weeks period! You can’t blame the USPS, weather, COVID or anything else. It is clear that management and follow up are lacking in this case. In closing, DO your due diligence on who you conduct business with. DO this no matter whom you conduct business with or where your dealings may take you. In this case, I did do business with First American Title Co. in Naples, FL in the past. I will make it my business to not transact business with them in the future. Simply put, I will make it my business to ensure that no recommendation will be coming from this client to anyone I associate with in SWFL.
