- RTRebeca TAug 24, 20261.0Tonight is Monday, and I’m sitting here overdrawn, waiting on a check that was supposed to arrive Friday. Behind that check is a real person. A real household. Real bills. Real consequences. I understand that the postal service is under tremendous pressure. I understand that the job is demanding. But what I cannot understand is how it is acceptable for our mail to simply not be delivered because our mailbox is inside the fence. The postal worker won’t even get out her vehicle to deliver it, so apparently our solution is… no mail. And while one missing delivery might sound insignificant to someone else, when you are already stretched thin, four days can mean everything. People’s lives are attached to those envelopes. I know nobody will probably see this. I know nobody at the Postal Service is likely to read it, and I know my disappointment probably won’t change anything. But tonight, I’m angry. I’m scared. I’m exhausted. And I’m tired of feeling like the people who are supposed to provide a basic service have forgotten that there are actual human beings on the other side of that mailbox. So I’m putting my disappointment somewhere, because apparently that’s all I can do tonight.
