To be clear: The Front End Staff is NOT who this bad rating is about. The front end Clerk was patient and understanding of my frustration, and I give them full marks as a good employee.
However the Supervisor/Manager I ended up with gave the USPS a bad name today, and may have changed me from being one of their supporters/defenders in the past to considering reducing my use of them.
I was sent a letter by corporate in the mail regarding a insurance claim on one of my ebay packages, demanding to see it. I'm not going to get tied up in the post office logistics of that problem itself as it doesn't have to do with this location's service review, suffice to say inadequate info/direction was given to do anything but go to random post offices and ask. However after this being the 2nd post office (3rd visit) I had to go to and 6th or 7th clerk to deal with me over 3 days, when the clerks couldn't solve it I understandably asked if a supervisor could provide more info so I don't go chasing every post office in the state for who I need to talk to.
This is where my problem comes in, that person (the Supervisor / Manager) gave me attitude from minute 1. I carefully and calmly showed them the package and pointed out the damage to the exterior that obviously lined up with the flaws in the product. They took it in back to "photograph" (it never came back), and when they came back gave me my letter back stamped and signed and made a statement something like "I'm only giving this to you because that little snag makes me think it's POSSIBLE one of our machines did it. Otherwise how do I know you didn't cut this package yourself and just want to get a refund", and proceeded to outline thoughts that I was trying to scam this system and buyers remorse.... so let me get this straight, your CUSTOMER who's Taxes and purchases PAY YOUR SALARY, on an INOCENT TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING here, deserves an accusatory Tone from day one after you already admitted to there being enough evidence to their point. Forget the fact that it's the Shipper who's getting the refund not me, and if I was really trying to scam the system why would I respond to the letter in the first place, why would I do three different post office visits to chase this?! (The answer of why is I was trying to do the RIGHT THING by Backing up the Ebay sellers claim, even though they had already refunded me... so I'm getting "shade" from the USPS for doing the right thing.)
It's the attitude from a person in a public facing role/position that crossed the line for me to make this post/review. If that manager had just signed/stamped and calmly/pleasantly said things needed to be taken as evidence (and left it at that) then I would have eaten the rest of the problems I had along the way I only eluded to above and gone home slightly annoyed by the prior overall logistical issues but ok. But to be accused of scamming them and giving me a crappy tone when all I did was the right thing overall has me question who's in charge to be putting these type of folks in a public facing role.
To be clear, I am not denying that there are folks that scam out there, I'm not naïve. But in this type of role at any agency/store, when dealing with customers, and especially when the circumstances don't add up for it to be a scam (again, why would I have even responded let alone a hassle), there should have been a lot more grace (not automatic venom).

I completed and paid for my PO Box application online, as instructed by USPS. When I arrived at the New Haven Brewery St branch to activate it, the clerk refused to access my online application and required me to fill out the entire Form 1093 again by hand. She was dismissive and unprofessional, which made the process unnecessarily difficult. I am requesting that staff be trained on how to properly handle online PO Box reservations and treat customers respectfully

Zero stars. Actually, these managers/workers enable their delivery employees to steal from clients. No repercussions for the thieves. It’s happened three times to us in less than 2 yrs! Calling the cops on the robberies taking place is our only option as customers.
