EDIT: The business has replied to my review with claims that are completely fabricated. I have added pictures to prove that there were obvious problems with the proportions on the prints, disproving PostNet's claim that "the sizing proportions were fully accurate, however with inconsistent quality and background shading on the originals it may have appeared skewed & out of proportion." The artwork itself is not creating an optical illusion that makes the aspect ratio "appear" skewed.
PostNet also says, "We came to the conclusion that it was low quality artwork provided to us. The technician noticed inconsistent shading & coloring in the background." This is a lie. I took both pieces home with me the day they were scanned. A technician servicing the scanner after my complaints were aired would not have had any access to the originals. It is also not anyone's job to diagnose "inconsistent shading and coloring" from a physical piece of artwork. The picture I attached with the green squares shows the dirt on bare paper. No, I did not manually add debris to the blank paper myself sometime between painting the art and having it scanned.
Original review:
The thought of another customer having a comparable experience to mine incentivizes me to post a warning against using this location. In April, I paid for prints based off of a physical piece of artwork, but the quality was poor. In the pictures I've attached, the debris, shadow, and dirt are on the prints themselves, not a problem with my camera. Here is an excerpt from the email I sent to the owner with a request for a refund on April 21st:
"I understand the difficulties of reproducing images, but one set of prints has had the aspect ratio visibly altered, and there is also a shadow on each of the prints that isn't on the original. The test proofs I was supplied don't contain these errors. On the second set of prints, there are large spots of dust/debris, as if the scanner wasn't clean. Again, the dust wasn't present on the test image I was provided. I'm attaching pictures of these details, which unfortunately make the prints unusable. Thank you very much for any help you can provide!"
At the owner's request, I returned the full physical order to the store in late April/early May. I emailed on May 19th to see if it had been evaluated. On May 22nd, I requested a call with a status update. On May 26th, I received an email from Derek Wachter saying the refund request was approved and would be processed late that week. He said he'd send an email when it was completed.
Unfortunately, I never received the refund. I politely followed up on June 16th, June 27th, and July 11th, but have received no response.
The prints would've been a good price if they'd been acceptable reproductions of the test proofs. I was sufficiently alerted that there would be some discrepancies in color, and I approved the process with that understanding, but the dust and shadows affected the prints significantly enough to make them look cheap and poorly representative of the original image. Even without these errors, the unapproved adjustment that was made to the aspect ratio of the art (presumably the result of a "fill page" option being selected, instead of scaling the media to the page with the correct proportions) distorted the image, adding about an inch of width without adjusting the height accordingly. That's not a mistake I'd make as an amateur, so I didn't expect it from a business that specializes in printing services.
I asked for a refund because I wouldn't have been comfortable selling results that misrepresented my art, contained specks of dust and shadows/printing errors, and lacked the quality one should expect when purchasing art prints. This isn't an issue of vanity about the quality of my art itself, but a frustration in the lack of fidelity in its reproductions. Had the order been refunded as promised, I wouldn't have posted this review. I am disappointed by the lack of follow-up, and feel foolish to have been grateful when I thought we'd reached a resolution.
