  When did customer service excellence become optional at Staples? During my recent visit, I approached an employee named Johnny for assistance. Unfortunately, the interaction fell well below what I would consider acceptable customer-service standards for a national retailer. There was no acknowledgment or greeting when I approached him. When I asked for help locating a specific item, I was quickly given a location and he immediately returned to what he was doing, without making any effort to ensure I found the product. More concerning was his response when I asked whether he could check inventory at a neighboring Staples location. I was simply told, “We don’t check other stores’ inventory.” This left me wondering: When did this change? In retail, customers should not be expected to independently call or visit multiple locations when an employee may have the resources to help determine product availability. If Staples has changed its policy and employees truly cannot check neighboring-store inventory, then customers should at minimum be offered an alternative—such as assistance checking online, providing the nearest store’s information, or suggesting another way to locate the product. Customer service is ultimately about making an effort. A greeting, a willingness to assist, and basic follow-through require very little time, yet they can completely shape a customer’s perception of a business. Staples has built its reputation over many years, which is precisely why this experience was so disappointing. I hope store leadership uses this feedback constructively to reinforce the fundamentals of customer service: acknowledge the customer, listen to the request, take ownership when possible, and make a genuine effort to help.

  WHAT A GOD DAMN EMBARRASSING COMPANY…. To hell with this piece of shit company. Greedy no good losers. Charging 49 cents a minute to use the damn computer, and another dollar plus to print one damn piece of paper a corner of it… and on top of that… here’s the real kicker. The keyboard is one of those trick keyboards where your hand placement doesn’t sit where it’s supposed to. The keys are made narrow on purpose so someone who types fast isn’t able to do it quick. I know my damn hand placement I type really fast… it took me 4 attempts before I noticed that they had intentionally messed with the keys. I’ll never step inside another god damn staples again. God damn grifters and thieves.

  The store and staff are great people. But it’s just the fact that you will spend a good amount of time here. I spent a total of 20 minutes here at this store waiting to just have someone scan my barcode and package my Amazon return. Something that takes 4 minutes to do but I understand there busy and stuff but like I do wish for my 20 minutes back.
