  I came to the Smith River post office on Thursday to get my kids passports. I was told I needed to make an appointment so I scheduled one for the following morning at 10am. I asked if I could mail out my Canadian passport from the post office and was refused. The post master said, I’m not doin it. So we left and found another option. We arrived at 10:07 the following morning and were told by Jason he would not take our appointment because we were late and have to reschedule. I apologized for being late and he told me, “this is not how adults act, you have an appointment, you show up on time” he went on to say how people come in thinking that since there is no one in the post office that he’s not busy. He said he has 6 appointments that day and has to do everything else so he’s turning us away. I asked if we could wait to see if his next appointment would be late so we could fill their slot and he said “no” He asked me if I was going to wait around all day and I said, well if you tell me when your next appointment comes in I can arrive 15minutes early to which he replied I won’t do that. He said we needed to arrive 15 minutes before our appointment - he also said if it was a doctors appointment and we were late they could bump us because adults don’t show up late to appointments. I said to him, we’ve been here 20 minutes already, we could probably have finished this by now and that if there was anywhere else I could get this done I would. He said he didn’t want to be doing passports (there’s the truth- he didn’t want to do it.) Friday was the only day my husband had off to where we could both go in and be there to apply because both parents have to be present. We ended up having to get additional forms (I got them from Gold Beach where they were super helpful) and have them motorized at the bank. He walked in at 9:59 and started at 10:01 and smelled aggressively of booze which must be what resulted in his more pleasant demeanor. I just wanted to share my experience because I had heard positive things about this place and I could not have been more disappointed. Having my kids hear how he spoke to us was a good example for them to see in person how NOT to be.

  The cutest and most efficient post office I’ve ever dealt with. Never any lines and the staff are as nice as can be. Jason is a gem and has helped me carry packages to my car when they pile up. Love this little post office!
