The worst customer service experience I’ve ever had.
I honestly don’t understand why the atmosphere at this location is so consistently hostile. In my experience, the staff often come across as unprofessional, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude.
Because I’ve had negative experiences here before, I was especially careful and polite when I walked in today. I even told myself, “I’m going to be extra nice so there’s no reason for anyone to be rude.”
I politely greeted a middle-aged woman with bleached blonde hair and red-framed glasses and asked whether I could receive a refund for a Certified Mail item that USPS had lost. She immediately and firmly told me, “No. Certified Mail does not get refunds.”
I believed her, thanked her, and left. However, after stepping outside, I checked the USPS website and found information stating that customers may request a refund when a Certified Mail service was not provided as purchased, including certain undelivered or damaged items.
I went back inside, waited another 10 minutes in line, and politely explained, “Sorry, but I checked the USPS website and it says…” Before I could finish, she became visibly annoyed and cut me off, saying, “I already told you no! If you have a problem, call customer service!”
I then asked if I could speak with someone else. She pointed to the clerk at the next counter and said, “Here’s my supervisor.” The supervisor was not wearing a uniform or a name tag—just a dirty black T-shirt. After looking at my receipt, he went to retrieve PS Form 3533, the refund request form I needed to complete.
At that point, I turned back to the first clerk and said, “I was only asking for clarification. It’s okay if you’re not sure, but please don’t…” She interrupted me again and snapped, “I am with a customer!”
When the supervisor returned, he handed me the form and said with a hostile attitude, “We don’t normally do this, but I’m going to do this one time only,” as if I were asking for something unreasonable. I pointed to the form, which clearly stated that it was a refund request form for Certified Mail, and said, “So what I found on your website was correct…” He immediately cut me off and impatiently replied, “Do you want your money back or not?”
At that point, I was shocked by the way I was being treated and decided I didn’t want to deal with them any further. I left and went to the USPS location in Santa Monica instead. There, the entire issue was resolved in less than five minutes. The staff were friendly, professional, and processed the refund request without any hassle.
The contrast between the two locations was night and day. Customer service should never make people feel like they’re being scolded for asking a legitimate question.
