  Beware: We had a terrible experience with Dana Mahler! She lacked in communicating with us and made several errors which delayed in our closing date and we lost money because of her!!!!!

  If it were up to me, I would never use First American Title in Scottsdale ever again. The whole process has been a nightmare; it appears as if no one in the office talks to each other which leads in inefficiencies and mistakes. First and foremost, I know that mistakes happen - that isn't what bothers me. What bothers me is the lack of ownership and transparency over said mistakes. I had already moved out of state when I needed to sign our closing docs. I used a mobile notary and overnighted the docs via Fedex. Quickly backing up, I had wanted to change how we would get the proceeds from a check to wire. I had confirmed with Dana Mahler that this was still okay. She told me to simply include the new instructions with the closing docs. I confirmed with another lady in their office (Dana was unavailable) the day that sent them. I emailed Dana and asked for confirmation when all of the paperwork had been received. The next day (a Friday) she emailed me that the paperwork had arrived. The following Tuesday, I received a phone call from Dana asking why I hadn't sent the closing docs yet. I was caught off guard and told her that I had already sent them and she had confirmed. She laughed it off and to be honest, I didn't think much of it...mistakes happen. However, the following Friday, after everything had been recorded, I emailed Dana and asked when I should expect the wire to go through. She responded and said, that I had chosen to have a check cut. I responded, with dates/times of the conversations we had had about changing from a check to a wire. I asked for her to call me (when I called her, she was unavailable). She never called me. Instead, she had one of her assistants call. I spoke with her assistant and was told that it was too late to initiate a wire. I was also told that they had lost/shredded my wiring instructions that I had sent with closing docs. This was extremely disconcerting after Dana didn't seem to remember that I had sent anything. I was told that I would need to fax new instructions first thing Monday morning. On Monday morning, I faxed new instructions and emailed the assistant asking for confirmation. 2 hours later, I got a call from another woman in the office saying, "I understand that you wanted to have your proceeds mailed to you, but I also heard through the grapevine that you might want them wire." I now told this new assistant, that I didn't want a check, I did indeed want the proceeds to be wired and that I had faxed the instructions just a couple hours prior. She told me that they didn't have them. I told her that I was looking at the confirmation printout from the fax machine with the date and time I sent them. She decided to go check the fax machine (go figure) and what did she find? My FAX! I just don't understand how this happens. Again, mistakes are made. I make mistakes all the time. However, instead of owning them, First American Title acts oblivious and shifts blame. This company lacks professionalism and I would never use them again. Trust another title company with your money.
