We went to this post office to mail the belongings of a loved one who recently passed away. This was an extremely emotional and important shipment for our family. We originally had a box at home and were taping it up when we realized it wasn’t the right size. Because of that, we purchased a box at the post office that included tape. However, we didn’t feel secure with the amount of tape that was included. The box was packaged correctly, but my sister simply wanted a couple more pieces of tape added to the bottom for extra peace of mind. This was very hard for her, and she just wanted to make sure it was secure before sending off her loved one’s belongings. Right up front, we explained what the package contained and why it was so important to us. We politely asked if a few additional pieces of tape could be added and even asked if we could watch him add it, just so we could feel comfortable knowing it was sealed. Instead, Zakari told us to step aside while he continued helping customers who came in after us. I stepped back, then got back in line thinking he would quickly add the tape so we could leave. Instead, he pushed me aside again and told me I needed to have “situational awareness.” More and more people kept coming in, and we were left standing there unsure when he would return to finish helping us. At one point he coldly said that it was our responsibility to have it packaged correctly. It was packaged correctly. We were simply asking for a small additional gesture to help my sister feel more comfortable. He also said, “We don’t owe you tape,” which felt unnecessarily harsh over something that would have taken seconds. He had already put the postage on the box, and I paid over $85 for the shipping. I am a paying customer. I matter too. This was not an unreasonable request. You never know what someone is going through, and kindness should always come first — especially when someone has already explained that they are mailing a deceased loved one’s belongings. This was my sister’s first time leaving the house since she watched the love of her life die in front of her. After this interaction, she was in tears, saying how cruel the world can feel and how she doesn’t even want to leave the house again. It was a major setback during an already heartbreaking time. All we needed was a small moment of empathy. Hopefully he never has to go through something so devastating and have someone show him so little compassion. We will not be returning to this location and will drive all the way to Spearfish in the future to ship anything. Basic human kindness goes a long way, and unfortunately, we did not experience that here.

Sturgis post office has to be the worst in the nation .rude when you call them .and out right lie to you when you ask about a piece of mail . Think the post master needs fired noting like being mocked and made fun of to the point you get pist off and cuss em out .they probably steal your stuff and hold hold your stuff on purpose so they don't have to do their job .should not take over 3 weeks to get some thing .some stuff over a month like VA letters or SSD office .happens all the time
