Our house used to have a handicapped resident before we lived here. This allowed our mailbox to be on the front of the house instead of posted out in the yard at the street. The post office had sent a notice asking us to put a mailbox up, and we planned on it. However, my husband and I had just gotten married, were traveling a lot, working out of town, etc. so it took a little while to get done. Without warning or notification, the post office began holding our mail. My updated social security card was held there, my husband’s car loan documents were held there, and much more. After being confused and frustrated about where on earth all of our mail was for long enough, my mom went to the post office (BECAUSE WE WORK OUT OF TOWN AND ARE NOT IN NEWBERRY DURING THE POST OFFICE’S OPEN HOURS!!!) and got all of our mail. They also vaguely explained that their mailman just “didn’t want to keep going up to the porch”. After that, they started delivering our mail to our porch again. Weeks later, my husband needed to get some things done at the DMV, so he was in town during the post office’s open hours. He went in to figure out the exact requirements and reason they held our mail. They then explained that a handicapped person lived at our house before us, and so they were allowed to have a mailbox on the front porch. THIS WAS NEVER EXPLAINED TO US UNTIL NOW. We do understand this, but it took a whole lot of hassle for them to actually tell us what was going on (my parents live within city limits and their mailbox is on their front porch — no handicapped person lives there, and their mail has been delivered with zero issues for 10 years). Anyway, we’ve put up our mailbox, and it’s been there for about a week and a half now. However, we still hadn’t received any real mail…. Until yesterday. Our mailbox was FULL of other mail they had held from us without notification. Alllllll this to say, the issue is now seemingly fixed, but I very much have lost my trust in their integrity. Glad we finally have our mail, I hope we continue to receive it.

Man working the front counter was extremely rude. After I asked for shipping on a specimen for lab work, he picked up the box and flipped the whole package UPSIDE DOWN right in front of me, after I nicely inquired about having a “this side up” warning. If you have something that needs to be taken care of, don’t do it here.
