None of the pen works in this spot, bring your own pen if you have to come. Employees are not so friendly either, refuse to borrow me pen cuz “they’re for passport people”.

An absolutely brutal experience. 11:15-11:45am on Monday, June 7, 2021. Two ladies hollering and laughing in the back, with a full line of customers out the door. No one at the desk for 30 minutes. Horribly unacceptable.

This is the post office responsible for delivering my mail. On multiple occasions within the past year, this post office has stopped delivering my mail for a month. No reason, no explanation, my mail just stopped arriving. My address didn't change, my mailbox within my apartment complex didn't change, nothing changed, except my mail delivery. I filed complaints and spoke with people somewhere within the Lovecraftian bureaucracy that is the post office (Hermes Conrad would be proud if he didn't go insane from glancing upon its visage) to little avail. On multiple occasions within the past year, this post office failed to deliver mail from the federal government. These letters have a notice on the envelope warning that there is a $300 fine for reading someone else's mail. Ironic, then, that outright failing to deliver federal government mail has no penalty. What I learned dealing with the post office is that they are not accountable to anyone but themselves, and as such they are free to not care about the lack of service. They are free to not care about jeopardizing people's lives and livelihoods through their inaction. They are free to do whatever they want, because they're the post office. They're like the DMV: not really a necessary "evil" (for I do not think their incompetence and apathy have the agency which is the prerequisite of an evil actor), but certainly a necessary nuisance. I have begun paying extra for shipping (e.g. using FedEx or UPS) for all packages I have shipped to me (including when the extra shipping is more than the cost of the item in question), and have informed merchants to not use the post office when shipping to me, because of their negligence and incompetence. This is at no small cost: I have packages delivered several times per week, every week. This is the degree to which the USPS has failed me. How sad, how rueful, how lamentable, that someone who is otherwise so vocally in favor of well-funded government services should need to leave such a scathing, acerbic review of what was once a (rightfully) proud institution.
