Needed an important delivery. Contact lenses so I can see to navigate the world and whatnot. On the day I was supposed to receive them, I received notification that they were being “held at post office at my request”. I never made such a request, so I called them to inquire about it. The individual that picked up the phone did nothing to beat the widespread allegations that postal workers are lazy. He sounds lazy, he talks lazy, and appears to have a severe entitlement issue.
He initially claimed the postbox was unmarked, despite that not being the case. When I informed him it was labeled, he immediately got short with me and said “I’m not going to argue with you,” in the most condescending tone you can imagine. He said “well, maybe next time you can use a proper address,” without telling me what was possibly wrong with the address on the package in the first place, and in spite of the fact they MUST have shown up to the address to allegedly attempt delivery to the “unmarked mailbox”. Mind you, for the duration of the call, I was doing my best to be incredibly polite.
When I asked what I can do, and insisted I would be unable to pick up the package (because I have a job an hour away), he informed me “We could send it back now. We’re doing you a FAVOR by holding on to it!” I had choice words for him at that point, and ended the call.
I payed for expedited shipping, they were several days late, and they are doing me a “favor”? They fail to deliver, and they are doing me a “favor”? They have a job they really probably shouldn’t because WE ARE FORCED TO PAY THEM TAXES while private companies provide a better, more reliable service… and they see it as though THEY are doing US “a favor”.
The United States Postal Service is a scam, an utterly embarrassing example of institutional welfare, with employees getting paid to offer the bare minimum service they can possibly get away with. I’ve never had a more disgusting and infuriating interaction in my life.
Use literally any other service. At this point, even the dreaded DHL has become far superior to the USPS. They ought to be ashamed.
