  A great little UPS store that locates in the west Eugene by Target. Always drop off with a shipping label, making things run faster. Staff were friendly also.

  I was trying to ship something to Canada and they say we don’t ship to Canada anymore because the duties and taxes and you’re gonna get screwed over get your information right Canada post is not on strike so that they’ve been turning away customers since last Christmas because of our strike that we had, I’ve never been so ups store at a UPS store. I’ve always had a great experience.

  My review reflects the complexity of The UPS Store franchise model, not the exceptional individuals who work here. The team at this location is outstanding. They're attentive, efficient (moving through lines of 10+ customers while remaining courteous and patient), and professional. The local franchise owner also deserves recognition for running an exceptional operation. The Problem: Corporate Responsibility vs. Franchise Reality As someone who ships ~250 packages monthly for the past two years, I've witnessed a troubling trend. UPS has systematically reduced resources, support, and training while shifting liability and performance expectations to individual franchisees—without providing adequate tools to meet those expectations. The Hazardous Materials Crisis The most concerning example: hazardous materials handling. UPS eliminated specialized customer support (I personally spoke with a longtime support specialist who was devastated about losing her position), leaving Eugene/Springfield without a single location capable of properly handling hazardous shipments. This affects more than you might think. Consumer electronics, power tools, and laptop batteries all require hazardous materials compliance. When customers ask how to ship these items safely, staff must say "we don't know"—because they haven't received the expensive training UPS decided not to provide. The Bigger Picture This creates a dangerous cycle: Amazon and other retailers ship non-compliant packages, customers remain unaware of regulations, and hundreds of potentially hazardous items ship improperly. The franchise owners bear the liability exposure while UPS Corporation remains protected. Why This Matters UPS has created a business model that looks attractive to investors—no liability, no direct store management—but it's damaging their brand long-term. Customers expect basic services like safely shipping a cell phone or laptop battery. When that's impossible, trust erodes. Bottom Line This location and its team are exceptional and deserve your business. My concern is with UPS's corporate strategy of using franchises to minimize liability while creating a network of well-intentioned but under-resourced locations. The franchise model could work—if UPS provided proper support, training, and resources to match their expectations.
