Maybe this Staples Staples employee was already having a bad day. Because I’ve never had a single bad experience in Staples before; in fact, I’ve always found the staff friendly and helpful, with a couple of them going above and beyond for me, which I still appreciate
SoI had bought a Canon printer at your store, which followed a rotten snag I had with HP. In my experience, HP aggressively pushed their subscriptions, then would not let you go, not if you wanted to use the ink they kept sending you and charging monthly for it.
So I went through the starter ink provided in my Canon PIXMA TR4720, then installed new cartridges that I had purchased at Staples. My printer has not worked since.
I spent two hours on the phone with a Canon representative and, believe me, we tried everything. Still no printing.
At a loss, I headed to Staples spoke with a Staples employee — I didn’t get his name, but he is a middle-aged and balding, with some brown hair. I rationally expressed my frustration with the printer that I had bought at Staples and I wanted to know which, if any, printers do not require a subscription, or at least don’t corner you in.
This employee never really answered that, nor did he take my theory seriously at all.
He kept repeating that all of his training never indicated such a possibility and besides, he sold hundreds of printers without complaint,.
At no time was I mean or threatening or even sarcastic. Neither of us raised our voices, but I was adamant about my view. Once I realized that we were going in a loop, I told him so. I thanked him and headed toward the door.
Then I hear: GET OUT OF MY STORE. I thought, surely he didn’t say that, so I turned around and asked him what he said. Indeed he repeated it and then threatened to get security — and I’m nearly to the door to leave anyway! And at 67 years old, I doubt I presented myself as a threat.
This saddens me because I no longer feel welcome in that store and now I must find another one, like Best Buy. And my printer, it still doesn’t work.
Regards,
Penny Owen

I'm getting really tired of companies wanting my phone number.
I recently went in to purchase an item, and the employee was explaining the point system to me. I listened to him for a bit, said I'm not interested and skipped. He then REOPENED the Point-of-Sale "enter in your phone number" prompt, saying "Are you sure?" And explained the EXACT SAME INFORMATION TO ME.
Yes, I understand that I DO NOT want to give this company my phone number, because it leads to spam in my inbox. I DO NOT shop here enough to want to earn points on my purchases. Having your rewards program is one thing, but having your employees so desperate to make "no" not mean "no" that I have to put my foot down just so I can spend money at your business is crazy.
