If they are small enough to fit in my mailbox I get them. If they are too big for a mailbox I NEVER get them. Got a notice they "attempted" to deliver my package at 4:38PM today. I was home all day and no one tried to deliver anything. They didn't even leave a pink slip in my mailbox. Got 2 large FEDEX boxes yesterday delivered right to my garage door. But USPS can't be bothered to drive up my driveway. I had a note on garage door telling USPS it was fine to leave package at garage. No USPS truck came into my driveway today.

They also like to wedge packages in the mailbox so tight that it won't close and is hard to remove. Today I received a package that was too large for the mailbox so they left it by the door, which was great. Except that they decided to stack all my mail with it... in the rain. So while the cardboard was able to withstand the deluge mostly, all my mail was destroyed. Edit: got a new mail carrier in the last year or two and the amount of misdelivered mail has dropped significantly, packages are still wedged into the mailbox or left on the ground under it.
