- DCDerek CheeJan 15, 20261.0Everyone is so friendly at DHL but I got completely screwed over. I wanted to ship some supplements to my wife in China. Told them I was new to shipping internationally, and expected them to stop me or offer advice if something isn’t going to work. That would make sense right? At one point the person helping me said that recipient in China would need some kind of import license. I told him that we definitely don’t have that. He says maybe it will be fine anyways. We continue with the shipment and I pay the exorbitant 200 dollar fee. The next morning my wife calls me saying that someone at DHL in China called her and told her that the declared value is too high and that she would not be allowed to accept the shipment as an individual. The package would have to be returned. A week later, today, I get a message saying I have to pay a 20 dollar import fee FOR SOMETHING I SHIPPED OUT MYSELF. Whatever that’s the government for you but long story short, ship with DHL at your own risk. They don’t assume any responsibility for things you should know. They wont stop you if you’re about to make a mistake. How they handle my situation is still yet to be seen. What a nightmare. $220 just to ship myself some supplements.
