Wow somehow takes 3 days for a package to travel from NY to NJ. Location was less than 2 hours away by the way. Actually embarrassing how inefficient and incompetent these workers are. Medicine should have arrived Friday and it’s Saturday and still sitting in Jersey.

I am writing to formally report unprofessional and inappropriate conduct I experienced at the Hopewell Junction USPS passport acceptance facility while submitting documents for a replacement U.S. passport.
For context, I was required to replace my passport due to damage. Because of imminent international travel, I utilized a government-approved expedited hand-carry courier service. This service required that my already completed and paid passport application simply be verified by the acceptance clerk, sealed, and returned to me so I could ship it using a prepaid overnight FedEx label. This was clearly stated both verbally and in a written letter I provided at the start of my appointment.
Despite this, the clerk repeatedly dismissed the documentation, stating she “did not know who these people were” and waving the letter in the air. When I calmly explained that the request was solely for document verification and sealing, I was told not to “tell her how to do her job.” The interaction escalated unnecessarily, with the clerk becoming aggressive and insisting—incorrectly—that I was not permitted to retain my sealed documents and that all passport materials must ship together through USPS.
Because of this refusal, I was forced to call the courier service processing my passport and place the representative on speakerphone. Even then, the clerk responded with hostility until it was confirmed—by the courier—that this was a legitimate hand-carry service. At that point, the clerk incorrectly stated that I had never mentioned using such a service, despite it being clearly communicated verbally and in the first lines of the letter I had provided.
The situation further deteriorated when the clerk asked how much I had paid for the expedited service and, in front of other customers, stated she felt “sorry” for me and suggested I was being scammed. She then asked whether I could cancel the service and incorrectly advised that I should have gone to Hartford, Connecticut to receive a same-day passport—an option I had already thoroughly researched and been unable to secure.
I found this behavior to be inappropriate, unprofessional, and publicly humiliating. At no point was I treated with the courtesy or neutrality expected of a USPS employee handling sensitive federal documents. The clerk’s misinformation, tone, and personal commentary caused unnecessary stress during an already time-sensitive process.
Not once did I match her aggression. I was calm and patient, and even fearful if you could see it in the silence/shakiness in my voice. That is not how you treat another human. I was hoping I could have a normal transaction after waiting in line for 1 hour, because I was also told “we do not do walk-ins for passports” despite being instructed to drive 12 miles because it is the closest facility to me that accepted those type of appointments.
I am requesting that this incident be reviewed and that appropriate training or corrective action be taken to ensure that customers using legitimate expedited courier services are treated respectfully and accurately in the future.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Jessica O

In and out in under 10 minutes. Polite and efficient clerk at the desk. Nothing really more to ask for.

I am never one to complain. Things have built inside in last few weeks to months. One occasion I went in there, I had to wait as no one was upfront. I was the only person waiting and I heard them in the back laughing it up. I stood there almost five minutes saying hello, hello. I have a PO Box and a lot of times I have to ask for my mail especially on Saturdays. It's an inconvenience because I'll wait online for ten minutes sometimes to claim mail that should have been in my box an hour before. I've seen customers get turned away while they're waiting for a package that's supposed to be there and the lady will tell them they have to come back.Twice the last few weeks on a Saturday my mail is not been in my box and I had to ask for it after the time it's supposed to be there. Also about 2 months I had a customer send me work via fedex. It was shown as signed for at the branch. After one week , it was never found or put in my box , and my client had to mail another one. This office in particular is in desperate need of supervision.
