Based on other reviews here.... Seems like they do this a lot. Shame on them for making life harder. Went into a different location in New Hyde Park with the same proof of identity, and everything went smoothly with absolutely no issues.

We had our appointment for our baby at 12:45pm for new passport, we were there right on time, and they were doing another client’s passport so we were asked to wait. After waiting, they say they can’t do it anymore, since they are closing. Like seriously, why schedule us for that time if you won’t take us.
