The only bad thing so far about Cold Spring

By far the worst US Post Office my fiance and I ever dealt with. Story Time: My fiance and I moved to the Cold Spring area recently (early April); we just purchased a home. I completed my change of address request online, no issues. However, my fiance filed his change of address request in person at the post office in Cold Spring. A week or 2 later, he received a USPS letter requesting that he "verify" his identity and change of address in person. He made a trip to the post office with his state ID; it is an out of state ID because as mentioned, we just moved to this area (<2 weeks since we moved). The headmaster, Karen, claimed that his out of state ID was "not valid" for a change of address request, because the address on the ID did not match the address of his request. My fiance then returned home to obtain his passport and the deed paperwork for our new home. He returned back to the post office in Cold Spring, and provided this documentation to the headmaster. With a passport and home deed + home insurance documentation in her physical hands, she then made the claim that our deed is "NOT a deed," as it showed our old address (at the time of purchase) at the very top of the first page. Apparently, she did not bother to look over the various papers attached, labeled "Deed," and read the areas that showed the address of our Cold Spring home, and completion of the sale. She did not want to accept this. Then he asked her to also review the home owners insurance (which is residential, not rental insurance). She continued to argue that the HOI wasn't acceptable either. After some arguing back-and-forth, she finally agreed to accept the documents, and processed my fiance's change of address request. Next encounter with this headmaster: my fiance is very active on Ebay; he sells and purchases a ton of items each month. He often prints shipping labels at USPS regularly, and drops the package off. Of all the different states we have lived in, he has always put a "return shipping" address of his parent's home. Because we have moved frequently in the past few years, he has done this to prevent loss of items that are being returned to him. No USPS office has ever mentioned anything about his return address being different from place of shipment; no USPS office has ever declined a package he was shipping because of this. But then again, we have never come across Karen (headmaster at Cold Spring USPS). We should have expected that Karen would find a problem with shipping packages with different return addresses. She REFUSED to accept and ship my fiance's items AFTER she printed the label AND scanned the package for shipment. My fiance drove back home, and attempted to change and/or cancel the return address through Ebay. But because she scanned the package, Ebay did not allow him to alter or cancel the label. Not only that, but the package was then marked as "received" by USPS to his Ebay customer, which makes it appear as if the package was accepted and en route. When realizing this, my fiance returned back to Cold Spring USPS the same day, and explained to that he is unable to cancel or change the shipping label, and he would not pay to have a new label created. She hid behind the excuse of, "I'm just following policy." Again, after back-and-forth arguing, she finally decided to accept the package. After reading the reviews for this USPS post office, we absolutely agree with others-- save yourself the headache and frustration, and drive the extra few minutes/miles to Beacon. We will NOT be coming back here for as long as we live here. Please avoid this place at all costs. [For reference my fiance and I are young professionals- he is a licensed practicing lawyer, and I work in healthcare. We are not ignorant to USPS policies, and this the first time we have ever encountered such issues at a USPS before.]

Oh my gosh I thought it was just me...the service is unacceptable & the postal workers are very unfriendly. Responses to concerns is nonexistent. The decline in service is astonishing. Lack of quality of the service has forced us to use other post offices in the area.

Lidia is the most unprofessional postal worker I met. We are deprived of 2-day shipping for it takes 2 days the packages to move from Garrison to Cold Spring office. At the same time they write "delivery attempted" even though the package is not in the post office after 11 am two days later. Recently my husband was charged for international mailing of a mass card as 2lb. package because their computer "does not allow first class large envelope mailing". DOUBLE PRICE! And our complain to the USPS were back to her to resolve. WHY?
