- WYWillie YaoFeb 2, 20261.0A Letter to All Minority Customers: An Observation on "Microaggressions" I’m not writing this to simply complain, but rather to invite you all to join me in an interesting observation. At this USPS location, there is an elderly Korean female staff member whose behavior perfectly exemplifies "microaggressions." Having lived in Park Slope which is a predominantly white neighborhood, for nearly five years, I have personally confronted and filed a formal complaint against her. Unfortunately, she refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. Based on over 50 visits over the past five years, here is what I have observed: 1. Selective Hospitality: She is warm and friendly toward white customers, but the moment a person of color steps up next, her demeanor shifts instantly to one of coldness, arrogance, and disdain. 2. Targeted Scrutiny: She goes out of her way to be difficult with minority customers. Even for pre-paid packages, she subjects us to extra measuring, weighing, and questioning. While it may seem like she’s just doing her job, this "special treatment" is reserved exclusively for certain groups, a textbook definition of a double standard. 3. Lack of Empathy and Professionalism: We don’t expect USPS staff to provide five-star hospitality, but basic empathy and service standards are mandatory, after all, this is a paid service and we are the customers. White customers may not notice this, but if you are a minority facing a complication or seeking help at her counter, you are essentially on your own. I encourage you not to dismiss this immediately.
