First Experience With Racial Bias in the U.S
the older woman with glasses gave me an extremely unpleasant experience.
I’ve been in the U.S. for only about a year, and this is the second time she’s mocked my accent and snapped at me, pretending she can’t understand me. Since weekends tend to be busy, I watched how she interacted with other customers, and the difference was striking. She addressed Hispanic customers politely with “Miss” and “Sir,” but with me, all I got was her yelling “Get back” and “Back up.”
The customer before me needed to write down a long address, and she patiently helped them for more than ten minutes, even handing them a pen.
And this really stands out because other staff members here have always done the same for me—handing me a pen right at the counter and waiting as long as needed, five minutes, ten minutes, however long it took.
But when it was my turn, she pointed to the packing table and told me to use the pen over there—and interestingly, every customer using that table happened to be Chinese or Korean.(in every time)
And then have to stand on the end of the line again.
It’s honestly shocking that someone like this is still representing the USPS in November 2025. I go there simply to pick up something meaningful from home, yet every visit feels like I need to brace myself for a confrontation.
As a person of color, I’ve tried hard not to assume racial motives when unpleasant things happen. I’m aware I can be sensitive about these issues. But her behavior has clearly crossed a line.
USPS should take this seriously. And if you’re an Asian person living in Astoria, I strongly recommend avoiding her counter when your turn comes—unless you want your whole day ruined.

Picking up the order from them was easy with the second lady. First lady was kind of rude. Delivery service is bad. The delivery person reaches the building, enters it yet writes there is no secure location in the building so he doesnt leave my order.

Employees are always rice and unwelcoming. Even if you walk in polite you’ll never get a positive interaction.

I don't understand how the delivery person could get into my building and dropped a Redelivery Notice in my mailbox but claimed on that same notice that there was "No Secure Location Available." They got inside my bldg already! Didn't even ring my bell.
I had two pkgs that were supposed to be delivered on the same day last month. One was marked as "delivered in mailbox" and one was not delivered due to lack of secure location. There was no pkg in my mailbox. I've requested a search. It's been almost a week & they are still searching. The other package, I requested a re-delivery. Idk, they decided they didn't have to do that. I had to go pick up or they'd return to sender. What's their job if not delivering mails?!
