I am writing to share a concern regarding the level of customer service we experienced during a recent visit to the post office. I came in with my wife and children for a scheduled appointment to renew our children’s passports.
We arrived prepared and on time. All applications were completed, and the remaining steps were limited to taking photos and processing the checks. Despite this, the clerk assisting us stated she did not have enough time to help because another appointment was coming soon. At the time, the location was empty, and there were three employees working at the counter.
The issue was not the process itself, but the manner in which it was handled. The attitude displayed was dismissive and lacked basic customer empathy. There was no attempt to find a solution or explain alternatives—only a rigid response that created unnecessary frustration.
I am not writing out of anger, but out of concern. Situations like this could be greatly improved with additional training in customer service and soft skills, particularly around communication, empathy, and problem-solving. A small effort to work with customers rather than turning them away would go a long way in improving the overall experience.
I hope this feedback is taken constructively and used to support employees in providing better service to the public.
