Extremely Unprofessional Passport Service – Very Disappointing Experience
We came to this USPS location for our newborn’s passport appointment, expecting a normal, respectful service — especially since this is an official federal service and we arrived on time with all documents prepared.
Unfortunately, the experience was extremely unpleasant. The woman at the front desk was openly rude and dismissive from the moment we walked in. She didn’t respond to simple greetings like “Good morning” or “thank you,” wouldn’t make eye contact, ignored basic questions, and spoke to us in a cold, disrespectful manner — just “sign here,” “do this,” without any explanation or kindness. It genuinely felt like we were interrupting her day or bothering her by just being there.
We had our newborn baby with us, and usually people are kind or at least polite in such situations — but she showed zero interest or empathy. A few minutes later, one of her friends or familiar customers walked in, and her attitude completely changed: smiling, talking warmly about her weekend, family, etc. So clearly, this wasn't about being tired or stressed — it was a conscious choice of how to treat certain people.
Another employee (a male clerk) was polite and professional, so it’s not about the entire office — but one particular employee at the passport counter is making the whole USPS location look unwelcoming and disrespectful.
Because of this experience, I definitely will not return to this office and would not recommend it to others, especially families with children. USPS really needs to review customer service standards at this location and consider retraining staff. A federal service should treat everyone with basic respect.

They do give accurate change when buying a stamp with $100, but they do not respect the first amendment or surv-AI-Lance. They also lie and record you after stating that recording is a federal offence.

Fantastic experience at this post office. We went to get my daughter's passport renewed and both female workers were patient and courteous. The woman who took the photo even took photos of our younger daughter to make her feel included. To me, if you can make my kids happy and not feel left out I appreciate more than words I can type. We all have good days and bad days and just remember that sometimes we are not the most pleasant people when speaking to workers. Too many times I see people disrespectful to workers at food places and stores like this. These workers don't work for us. Please be courteous and if you want respect, than it starts with you.
I will go out of my way to come back here. Thanks again!

The Oakland, NJ post office is the worst post office ever. The workers seem completely miserable and take it all out on customers. There is one female worker who seems to be beyond any hope in terms of emerging from her misery. I’ve seen innocent customers, myself included, being treated like children, getting yelled at for the most ridiculous things. Forget it if someone wants to renew their passport here. It’s way too much work for them to be bothered with. I’ve done a pretty good job at avoiding this post office, luckily. It’s well worth going to another post office in a surrounding town because the workers know how to treat people like adults. Avoid this place! I’ve been to many other post offices, and I can’t say I’ve ever encountered such terrible service elsewhere.
