I read the reviews of this post office beforehand, and was sort of entertained at the idea of meeting this infamous Melvin. So many people giving this place one lonely star. People complaining about the employee being rude, lazy, unwilling to help. I needed to mail something simple, so I figured I would go to this post office just to have the Melvin experience, and if there was a problem or something it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I parked on the side of the building and headed in. It was very quiet, not even a radio, there was no one else in there except for me and the person behind the counter. I was immediately struck with a friendly "Hello there!" I smiled and replied with my own hello. Getting closer to the counter, I could read the name tag on his grey USPS shirt. [DON] This wasn't the legendary Melvin I had read so much about. I was slightly disappointed, but let me tell you I have never had such a wholesome experience at any USPS. Heck, I might have never had such an experience with ANY kind of customer service. Don had this charming vibrancy about him, like he loved helping others. I placed the package on the counter and he goes, "Oh you need to mail that!" He said it with a kind of eagerness that even made me excited to mail this package. He started processing the parcel, then he says, "You're not in a big rush to deliver this, are you?" As though if I were worried about it, he would also be just as worried--like he created this empathic bond and was now invested in this package's safety. He started reading through the delivery options, and I told him I'm in no rush. "Is it ok if it gets there in four to five days?" he asked. Again, he seemed genuinely concerned for me about this package. Not in a frantic worrying way, but in the way that you just want the best for someone and you just hope things work out for them. We settled on the ground shipping option, and then he goes, "Will you be needing any stamps today?" And usually I say no, but I did start thinking it might be fun to start sending some letters to people so what the heck. "Sure!" I said. He then begins to delicately pull out these stamps from this frosty clear docket, as though he's handling ancient scrolls or museum artifacts. We start to talk about them, enjoying the artwork and stuff. He has a Will Ferrell-from-"Elf"-energy--only in the best ways (I don't even remember much from "Elf" but that's just the vibe I got). "They're slim pickins'," he says. "The guy who usually works here is retiring and I'm not sure when he's gonna restock on these." "The guy who usually works here?" I ask. "Melvin. He's retiring. I'm not usually at this location." It made me curious, and a little bummed out that I may never get to meet Melvin. Oh well. I purchase half a book of stamps and he rings me up. When the receipt prints, he tells me I can scan the bar code to get my tracking information. "Or," he says, "you can do it the old school way by typing in this tracking number here," as he taps on the receipt. "You can also scan this code all the way down here to take a survey!" And I usually disregard that kind of thing when I get handed receipts, but tbh I couldn't wait to get home and take that survey. Before I leave, we chat a little bit about the weather. If it's still soggy outside, and how hot it's been recently. We exchange goodbyes and I leave the building. I have never written this long of a review anywhere, about anything or anyone. Maybe it's cuz I'm baked. And this isn't necessarily even a review of this specific USPS. This is me just talking about my first experience walking through those doors. Although I will say that if you do come here and meet Don, cherish that interaction. It's not everyday you meet someone like that. 10/10 coming to this USPS has lifted a deep lingering darkness in my heart.

Just stopped in here a few mins before close because I work 8-4:30 normally and that’s the best I could do. I get it, we wanna go home at the end of day, but I have never been so rushed to get out of a lobby in my life. Pretty bad customer service. You work for USPS and are probably salaried with an hour long paid lunch. You can stay until the clock strikes 4:30.
