(Update on 3/3/2026) Based on the store manager’s reply. It obviously shows that you lack the communication skills expected of a manager. You wrote a lot, but none of it really addressed the main point or make sense. 1. It was not you ended the business. It was me ended it, Because of your challenging attitude, I said I would prefer another staff member to help me. After her response, I decided I would go to another store instead. 2. I did not interrupt the other two customers. When I came back to ask you a question, there were no other customers there. During our conversation, two customers came in, and both were helped by the other two staff members — one lady and one older gentleman. Meanwhile, you repeatedly asked me, “Can I ask you to leave? Can you leave?” This was after I asked for your name and told you I will leave after I write it down to my phone’s note. 3. In your reply, although you said no one thought I was shipping hazardous materials. However, in person, you were the one who brought up the topic of a bomb at the very beginning. At this moment Do you still really think it was appropriate to say to a customer, “I just want to make sure you are not shipping a bomb,” especially when you could clearly see I had a folder on the scale? 4. At the other UPS store, the staff explained the ID requirement clearly in just one sentence — when ID is needed and when it is not. That was all. But you kept talking about bombs, saying UPS required you to ask, and tapping on the statement on the desk. None of that was helpful. But one thing in your reply is correct, I did find peace. It is great that Chapel Hill has more than one UPS store for customers to choose from. Especially the other store can provide much better customer services. ( original post) The store manager, Julian Davis, was extremely rude and unprofessional. He doesn’t seem to have the communication skills needed to be a manager. I brought in a folder with a picture inside that I needed to ship to another state. I asked him which shipping option he would recommend — a document envelope or a box — because I just wanted to make sure the picture wouldn’t get bent during shipping. He impatiently replied, “It’s up to you.” After I decided to use a box, he asked for my ID. I asked why he needed it. He said, “I want to make sure you’re not shipping a bomb.” I told him he could clearly see it was just a picture. He responded, “UPS wants to know who shipped it if it was a bomb.” I was speechless and gave him my driver’s license, he kept asking for more information in a very challenging and uncomfortable way. At that point, I said I would prefer another staff member to help me. The other employee was leaning back against a machine and said she would do it the same way. So I told Julian I would just go to another store. After I got into my car, I started wondering why I never had to show my ID when I previously dropped off packages, and how checking my ID would guarantee there was no prohibited item inside. So I went back in and asked him. He just said, “UPS asks me to do it. You can ask UPS.” When I asked for his name and wrote it down in my phone, he said" Can I ask you to leave? I am asking you to leave" After that, I went to the UPS Store at 400 S Elliott Rd D, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. The experience there was completely different. The staff were friendly and professional. The lady who helped me patiently explained the difference between shipping an unpackaged item and dropping off a sealed box. She gave helpful suggestions on the best shipping method and carefully wrapped my folder with multiple layers of bubble wrap to protect it. It was truly excellent customer service. It’s easy to see why that location has much better Google reviews. I highly recommend going to the Elliott Road UPS Store if you want professional and respectful service and don’t want your day ruined by poor customer service.

The notary here was incredibly difficult to work with and definitely needs to be retrained regarding notarization practices.

I consistently have a great experience at this UPS Store. The staff is friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful every time I come in. They’re efficient even when it’s busy, and they always take the time to make sure everything is packed, labeled, and shipped correctly. What really stands out is their customer service — they’re patient, knowledgeable, and go above and beyond to answer questions or offer the best shipping options. I’ve trusted them with important packages and returns, and everything has been handled smoothly and securely. Clean store, great team, and reliable service. This location has made shipping and returns stress-free, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable UPS Store.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this UPS Store. The staff was unprofessional, dismissive, and treated me with a level of disrespect that felt rooted in bias rather than any legitimate issue with my request. Customer service should be consistent and respectful for all customers, yet it was clear that I was not afforded the same courtesy or patience as others in the store. The tone, body language, and lack of basic professionalism made the environment uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Businesses that serve the public have a responsibility to treat every customer fairly, regardless of race. Unfortunately, this location failed to meet that standard. I would strongly encourage management to address staff conduct, provide proper customer service training, and reflect on how prejudice(whether intentional or not) affects customer experiences. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so future customers do not encounter the same treatment.
