I come to this UPS Store almost every day for my small business. We have a UPS business account, my labels are always pre-printed, everything is packed and ready to go — I’m not coming in needing help printing labels or figuring things out. No bogging down the line with messy Amazon returns It’s always a quick, simple drop-off, and in the past staff either scanned my boxes at the counter or were fine with me setting them aside when it wasn’t busy or super busy. I don’t even ask for a receipt with the intent of genuinely trying to he an easy, kind, low hassle Customer.
They recently added a self-scan station, which I’ve used before and don’t mind at all. The other night I came in about 30 minutes before closing with one other customer in the store and politely asked if I could leave my boxes at the counter with no receipt. The employee looked frustrated and didn’t respond, so before I walked out I asked again, “Is that okay?” She then told me I should use the self-scanner.
I had actually assumed the self-scanner was mainly for when it’s really busy so the line could move faster. I was intentionally trying to be respectful and not make a machine fully replace a person’s job. Instead, I ended up walking back, picking the boxes up from her station, moving them to the self-scan, and scanning everything myself while she stood at the counter.
What bothers me isn’t using the scanner — I’m totally fine with that, and I already use it. It’s the attitude and lack of clear communication. A simple, friendly “Hey, we now ask everyone to use the self-scan for drop-offs” would have completely changed the interaction.
We ship enough that I could easily schedule regular UPS pickups and skip coming into the store altogether. I actually prefer stopping in and supporting this location, but experiences like this really make me reconsider that. I hope management sees this and sets clearer expectations and standards for customer service, especially for regular business customers who are already doing their part to make the process easy.
For the record, I’ve always had a pleasant experience here and felt I’d built some indirect rapport with the team. There’s even a guy that calls me the “candle guy” which is awesome!
But, the small business customers using your location to make a living are not your enemy. I am not trying to make anyone’s life harder but there should be reasonable expectations around situations like these. Things don’t need to be so angry and gloom.
I’ll keep coming here either way. It’s the only one around and I like getting out of the house haha

This store is always friendly. Quick lines. Knowledgeable folks. The store felt like the original location under construction. It just a couple doors south of Jimmy John’s. Good people.
