Customers Beware!
I am writing to report a troubling experience my wife and I had at the UPS store located 29476 Northwestern Highway in Southfield MI On November 18, 2025, My wife accidentally left her change purse on the counter with credit cards, license, and money in it. The next day, after she realized it was missing, I called the store and was informed by an employee that her purse was indeed there and could be picked up. I thanked her and mentioned that my wife would be there in 15 minutes.
Upon her arrival at the store, however, she was met with conflicting information from the same employee I spoke to on the phone. The employee stated, “good news bad news”; while her purse was still at the store, it wasn't placed where it should have been in lost and found. When she inquired further, she explained that her manager (who had just gone home - early - from her shift) had apparently moved it but had not been responding to her repeated calls.
After waiting for 30 minutes without any updates regarding the manager’s whereabouts, she asked again about the situation. At this point, she said that the manager claimed not to have see my purse. My wife suggested reviewing security footage since she previously indicated that it showed a manager holding my purse; however, she did not follow through on this suggestion.
At this point I went to the store myself and questioned the same clerk about our situation. This time, the same employee I spoke to on the phone told me that she had contacted the store owner who was supposedly viewing video footage from home but would need more time before providing any answers.
Feeling frustrated by this lack of communication and transparency, we decided to escalate matters by contacting UPS corporate offices for assistance. A representative there apologized for our experience and suggested we involve local authorities if necessary.
I immediately called the police. At this point—just as police were being called—the owner requested to speak with my wife directly and asked us not to contact law enforcement. I took over communication with the owner but firmly stated it was too late; officers were already in route.
Over the close to 2 HOURS we were in the store - all 4 employees searched the store high and low looking for my wife's bag - and the store is not that big. Couldn't find it. Coincidentally, right before the police arrived at the store, the branch manager walked in (returning to work after leaving 2 hours prior for the day) with a big bag. She took off her jacket and disappeared in the back. Just when the police went behind the counter, out comes a staff member emerged from the back room with my wife's change purse in hand—a clear plastic bag containing all its contents—stating that it had been placed on a top shelf by management. If this were true, why hadn’t anyone communicated this earlier instead of insisting they couldn’t find it? Further the store owner mentioned he would call me after reviewing all the ‘frames’ of the security camera. He never did call, which implies to me that he knows he has an issue with the branch manager and what happened.
I want to caution anyone considering visiting this UPS location for any reason—be it returning or picking up packages—to exercise extreme caution when handling personal items or payments there. Given our experience—and having read other reviews detailing similar issues (stolen packages) — I believe there may be serious concerns regarding integrity among certain staff members at this location - and in particular the branch manager. If it needs to be UPS handling your shipping/receiving, there is a UPS store close by where employee integrity (with better customer service!) nearby - you have choices!
